During the course of Lebanon Support's Migration Study Week, we will be hosting a public event “How can scientific research inform programmatic interventions and policy-making?” on Thursday 29 August 2019 at 6:30 PM.

This workshop co-organised by Lebanon Support and the Arab NGO Network for Development aims to place the localisation debate in a longer temporality of global discussions that have shaped international cooperation during the past decades, and at bringing back equal and balanced partnerships at the heart of these discussions, and initiate a process towards the adoption and enactment of a civil society charter in Lebanon.

Through this experimental exchange we want to bring those together who drive or support participatory change processes, conflict transformation, and empowerment in communities. This course is open to people wanting to get a better understanding of stereotypes and power dynamics in the context of journalism and media, and find ways to do more just and equitable reporting and writing.

We will explain what the greenhouse effect is from a scientific perspective, at the planet’s level and in our daily lives.

We will discuss what the environmental crisis is made of, and where are the myths and the realities. Is there really plastic in our food? How is climate change affecting us? We will try to take distance from emotions and see the factual picture.

This training explores social work practice in light of these contextual and relational dynamics, taking a step back to redirect our actions where necessary and to the extent possible. By exploring various tools and sharing experiences, it aims at better understanding power dynamics that emerge and form in the field and at exploring new approaches for interventions. The objective is to enable the implementation of fair and equitable projects for all.

During this event, we will launch the third issue of the Civil Society Review*, our peer-reviewed journal, as well as introduce its editorial board. This issue offers insights into the transformation of the “associative sector” in Lebanon and Palestine, a sector generally seen to be at the core of an increasingly active civil society.
