تهدف حلقة النقاش هذه إلى تحليل الأثر التراكمي للتعرُّض المتكرّر للنزاعات على الأطفال في لبنان، وفهم تأثير جولات الحرب والانهيار الاقتصادي والتهميش البُنيوي على حياة الأطفال ومستقبلهم/نَّ، وذلك للإجابة في نهاية المطاف عن سؤالٍ محوري: إذا أَرَدْنا أن تكون مسألة الحدّ من تعرُّض الأطفال للنزاعات وتعزيز قدرتهم/نَّ على التكيُّف والصمود جزءًا أساسيًا من أيّ خطّة وطنية للتعافي، فما هو المسار الكفيل بتعزيز حماية الطفل، وتغيير الاتّجاهات الراهنة، ووضع الجيل القادم في صميم الأولويات الوطنية؟

This roundtable aims to unpack the cumulative impact of repeated exposure to conflict on children in Lebanon. It will examine how cycles of war, economic collapse, and systemic neglect are reshaping children’s lives and futures, ultimately seeking to answer the question: if reducing children’s exposure to conflict and strengthening their resilience are to be central to any national recovery agenda, what path forward can enhance child protection, reverse current trends, and place the next generation at the heart of national priorities?

نادًا إلى النتائج الرئيسية لأبحاث مركز العلوم الاجتماعية للأبحاث التطبيقية (تقرير، وموجز للسياسات، ورسم بياني)، تهدف الندوة، من جهة، إلى مناقشة تأثير الأنظمة القديمة والمعزولة التي أعاقت الاستجابة الفعّالة للأزمات. من جهة أخرى، ستتطرّق الجلسة أيضًا إلى آثار نظام الحماية الاجتماعية الموحّد الذي يضمن حصول الجميع دون استثناء على العدالة الاجتماعية، وكيف يمكن لنظام الحماية الاجتماعية الشامل أن يدعم بناء الدولة في نهاية المطاف.

Drawing on key findings from CeSSRA’s research (report, policy brief, and infographic), the webinar aims to discuss, on the one hand, how outdated, siloed systems have hindered effective crisis response. On the other, the session will also unpack the broader social justice implications of a unified system that ensures no one is left behind, and ultimately how a universal social protection system can support state-building.

تعرض هذه الندوة نتائج تقريرٌ مشترك من إعداد "شبكة المنظّمات العربية غير الحكومية للتنمية" و"مركز العلوم الاجتماعية للأبحاث التطبيقية". كما تسعى إلى فهم ومعالجة تأُثير الأبحاث المبنيّة على الأدلّة على النقاشات العامّة ومسارات صنع السياسات، وذلك انطلاقًا من مثال صندوق النقد الدولي.

This webinar presents the findings of a joint report co-authored by the Arab NGO Network for Development and the Centre for Social Sciences Research and Action. It also seeks to understand, and address, via the example of the IMF, how evidence based research can impact public debates and policy making processes.

The webinar is part of the thematic cycle “Understanding the social question in the Middle East and North Africa” by The Centre for Social Sciences Research and Action. By undertaking a historical and political survey of the progressive reconfigurations of the social question in the region, this webinar series wishes to contribute to better understand the construction of social justice demands in contemporary Middle East and North Africa.

This webinar is to present the research conducted by Nadim Haidar between february and november 2022 in the framework of the centre’s Social Justice Fellowship Programme. Nadim Haidar’s intervention will be based on his paper published by the centre (available here) which investigates the political imaginaries of the protestors that took part in the massive social movement of 2019 in Lebanon, commonly referred to as the “October Revolution”. This project “Transferring (Feet) Head Heart Hands Youth Methodology to (Middle) East” (THYME) is focusing on global citizenship and its education, democracy, and sustainable development. That goes in line also with European Youth Goals. THYME aims at developing the awareness of youth as global citizens, and enabling them to explore how can they influence a local community to be more sustainable. Their local community will be their point of departure to explore can it be smarter and more sustainable.
