After more than a decade of conflict, Yemen remains one of the world’s most complex and protracted humanitarian crises. The country continues to face the compounded impacts of conflict, climate change, economic collapse, and the near-total breakdown of public services and institutions.

South Sudan hosts close to 600,000 refugees and asylum seekers with Sudan as the primary country of origin accounting for 95% of refugees, followed by DRC (3%), and Ethiopia (1%). Most refugees, (63%) reside in refugee camps across the country, 12% live in rural areas while 25% live in urban settings.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed the lifesaving contribution of JPY 500 million (US$3.3 million) from Japan to provide emergency food and nutrition assistance to Palestinians facing severe food insecurity due to the conflict in Gaza and also escalating violence in the West Bank.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said during a parliamentary session last week that the Japanese government was making an “earnest effort” to accept “ill or injured” people from Gaza as part of a “medical evacuation.”
