After more than a decade of conflict, Yemen remains one of the world’s most complex and protracted humanitarian crises. The country continues to face the compounded impacts of conflict, climate change, economic collapse, and the near-total breakdown of public services and institutions.

South Sudan hosts close to 600,000 refugees and asylum seekers with Sudan as the primary country of origin accounting for 95% of refugees, followed by DRC (3%), and Ethiopia (1%). Most refugees, (63%) reside in refugee camps across the country, 12% live in rural areas while 25% live in urban settings.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, together with local authorities in Aden, officially broke ground today on the Al-Arish Wastewater Pumping Station—a landmark project that aims to improve sanitation services, public health, and environmental conditions in one of Yemen’s most densely populated urban areas.
