NEW YORK, 23 September 2024 – “I am deeply alarmed by the ongoing surge of attacks in Lebanon and Israel, which earlier today reportedly claimed the lives of at least 24 children in southern Lebanon. The intensifying violence represents a dangerous escalation for civilians in the area.

UNIFIL expresses grave concern for the safety of civilians in southern Lebanon amidst the most intense Israeli bombing campaign since last October.

Lebanon continues to be severely impacted by ongoing hostilities, with daily exchanges of fire across the southern border. In 2014, Mohammad had arrived Lebanon with his family. He knew later he is wanted by the Syrian Military Forces and Syrian State Security and is wanted as well to do the obligatory Military Service.

وفي 25 أيلول 2023، زار فرع الأمن العام في دير عمار شمال لبنان لتجديد إقامته. تم اعتقاله ثم إرساله إلى سراي طرابلس ومن ثم إلى المديرية العامة للأمن العام في بيروت.

وعندما حاول محامي عائلته الاستفسار عن قضيته رفض معلومات الأمن العام الكشف عن أي معلومات عن سبب اعتقاله.

في 10 تشرين الأول 2023، زارته عائلته ولكن عندما غادروا اتصل بعائلته وأخبرهم أن اسمه مدرج على قائمة المبعدين قسراً.

Years later, he registered with UNHCR as asylum seeker. In 2021, he married from a Lebanese lady.

On 25 September 2023, he visited the General Security Branch in Deir Ammar, north of Lebanon in order to renew his residency. He was arrested and then sent to Serail Tripoli (Court) and then to the General Directorate of General Security in Beirut.

م.ع هو مواطن سوري الجنسية، طالب لجوء. في 22 أيلول 2023، اعتقله عناصر من جهاز أمن الدولة اللبنانية من منزله في مخيم الرحمة في البقاع شرق لبنان. واتهم بمخالفة قواعد الإقامة في لبنان.

بتاريخ 3 تشرين الأول 2023، صدر حكم عن محكمة جنايات زحلة بتغريمه عشرين مليون ليرة لبنانية بالإضافة إلى ترحيله إلى سوريا. بتاريخ 6 تشرين الأول 2023، نُقل إلى الأمن العام في زحلة.

ويخشى أن يتم ترحيله إلى سوريا حيث قد يتم القبض عليه تعسفياً ويتعرض للتعذيب.

M. A, is a Syrian seeker asylum. On 22 September 2023, he was arrested by the Lebanese State Security Forces from his home in Al Rahma Camp in Bekaa, east of Lebanon. He was accused of violating the rules of residency in Lebanon.

On 3 October 2023, a sentence was issued by the Criminal Court of Zahle which fined him with twenty millions of Lebanese Lira in addition to deportation to Syria. On 6 October 2023, he was transferred to General Security in Zahle.

He fears to be deported to Syria where he might be arrested arbitrarily and subjected to torture.

On Aug. 10, 2023, two boats, each carrying 110 migrants, departed Lebanon's northern shore in Akkar, attempting to irregular sea journey across the Mediterranean toward Italy. The Lebanese Army thwarted one of the boats, while the other one managed to cross into regional waters. Among the 110 migrants are 37 children, 14 women and 59 men, around 90 percent of whom are Syrians.

Abdul Hadi Abdul Bari Al-Othman is a Syrian registered as an asylum-seeker with the UNHCR in Lebanon since 2013. He resides in Koura-Tripoli, Lebanon. In May 2023, he was arrested in Tripoli on charges related to theft. On July 20, 2023, the Indictment Chamber in North Lebanon decided to release him. However, he was transferred to the retention center of the General Security in Beirut, and has been detained since then.
