As part of its continued support for the brotherly Lebanese people, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has dispatched 17.3 tons of urgent humanitarian aid via an Amiri Air Force plane.

Israel’s military campaign, which escalated on September 16, involved extensive airstrikes and bombardments across Lebanon, and a ground invasion along the southern border.

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has sent 35 tonnes of urgent humanitarian aid to support the brotherly Lebanese people.

Since the escalation of the hostilities in Lebanon, approximately 220,000 people are believed to have crossed the border to Syria through both official and unofficial border crossing points.

On 26 December 2022, Cedar Centre joined several local and international civil society organisations in seizing the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT) and relevant UN Special Procedure mandate holders with a call for urgent action concerning the situation in Roumieh prison and other Lebanese detention centres

عمِلَت وزارة العمل بشكل غير علني وبالتعاون مع أصحاب مكاتب استقدام العاملات في الخدمة المنزلية على مسودّة عقد العمل الموحَّد الخاص بتنظيم العمل المنزلي للعاملات المهاجرات في لبنان، مستبعدين من النقاشات العاملات والجمعيات المختصّة المعنية. بعد الاطّلاع على المسودة، نعتبر أنّ هذه الخطوة هي سقطة موصوفة، تنتهك حقوق الإنسان البديهية لصالح حفنة من أصحاب المصالح المادية و”التجّار“ المتمثّلين بمكاتب استقدام العاملات المهاجرات إلى لبنان.

The Ministry of Labor has worked covertly, in coordination with owners of recruitment agencies, on a draft Standard Unified Contract and has excluded from the discussions the domestic workers and the NGOs who have a long experience in this context. After reviewing the latest draft, we consider the contract to be an absolute scandal that audaciously violates basic human rights in favor of the vested interests of a handful of “traders” embodied by the recruitment agencies in Lebanon.

The signatory organizations call for action to protect migrant workers as 13 migrant workers reported that their rights have been violated at Caritas Lebanon shelter.

قررت 13 عاملة إثيوبية في 22 حزيران مغادرة ملجأ كاريتاس لبنان الذي نقلتهنّ إليه وزارة العمل من أمام قنصلية بلادهنّ حيث تُركن في أيار وحزيران 2020. وأحالت العاملات السبب إلى تعرّضهنّ لانتهاكات في حقوقهنّ. 

وأعلنت وزارة العمل أنها سوف تجري التحقيقات اللازمة في هذه القضية وتلاحق أي موظِّفين أو موظفات يثبت ارتكابهم/نّ انتهاكات.

وبعد مغادرتهنّ الملجأ، قابلت حركة مناهضة العنصرية والمركز اللبناني لحقوق الإنسان العاملات الأجنبيات اللواتي أفدن بأنهنّ احتجزن منذ 5 حزيران من دون إعطائهنّ أية معلومات عن وضعهنّ ومصيرهنّ. كما أنهنّ كنّ محتجزات في الملجأ طوال الوقت ولم يحصلن إلّا على الطعام ومكان للنوم ولم يسمح...
