A joint UN convoy including UNRWA has successfully delivered urgently needed aid to Lebanon for the first time since violence escalated there at the end of September.

On 16 October, the Ministry of Public Health of Lebanon confirmed a cholera case, highlighting the escalating health risks amidst ongoing conflict.

Children in Lebanon are at growing risk of health and protection issues – including waterborne diseases like cholera, hepatitis and diarrhoea – as the continued bombardment of the country increasingly disrupts and damages essential services that families rely on.

The situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate, with Israeli airstrikes intensifying across heavily populated areas, including South Lebanon, Beirut, Mount Lebanon (BML), Bekaa and for the first time since the beginning of the conflict, North Lebanon.

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) expresses its deep concern regarding the escalation of hostilities in Lebanon, which has resulted in a significant loss of life, injury, and displacement.

Since early October 2024, Israeli airstrikes and ground operations in Lebanon have intensified and expanded, hitting civilian infrastructure, leading over 541,000 people to flee southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Three weeks ago, Israel dramatically intensified its airstrikes on Lebanon, a country that has already been through loss and destruction.

Israel’s military campaign, which escalated on September 16, involved extensive airstrikes and bombardments across Lebanon, and a ground invasion along the southern border.

The Ministry of Labor has worked covertly, in coordination with owners of recruitment agencies, on a draft Standard Unified Contract and has excluded from the discussions the domestic workers and the NGOs who have a long experience in this context. After reviewing the latest draft, we consider the contract to be an absolute scandal that audaciously violates basic human rights in favor of the vested interests of a handful of “traders” embodied by the recruitment agencies in Lebanon.

This campaign aims to amend Chapter Seven of the Lebanese Penal Code into a law that maximizes prison sentences to perpetrators of incest rape. More specifically, the call is to amend the law that condemns any offender found guilty of sexual assault of a daughter, sister, granddaughter, nieces or any person of whom he has physical or legal custody with a life sentence in prison.
