كشف المنتدى العربي للبيئة والتنمية عن وجود سوء إدارة للمياه في جميع أنحاء العالم العربي، مبا في ذلك، وغير مقتصر حصريا على نقص موارد المياه العذبة في العالم العربي على سبيل المثال. وكون 13 دولة عربية من أكثر البلدان التي تعاني من ندرة اللياه في العالم في الوقت الراهن وانخفاض متوسط توافر اللياه العذبة بحلول عام 2015 إلى أقل من 500 متر مكعب سنوياً وهذا ما يعرف بالاجهاد المائي الحاد وبقاء دولتين فقط هما العراق والسودان فوق خط ندرة المياه بحلول عام 2025

أصبح تغير المناخ واقعا مقبولا وتم تسجيل تأثرياته وتوثيقها في جميع أنحاء العالم. فقد سجل مركز أبحاث الأوبئة الناجمة عن الكوارث (CRED) في بلجيكا 39 كارثة مناخية لغربي آسيا منذ عام 1969. وتم تسجيل 12 كارثة في عام 2000 ّ وحده.
