This movement lasted barely ten days, yet cost the lives of over one hundred people. The research explains how the inhabitants in popular neighborhoods reacted to the establishment of a new form of welfare state that was more concerned with fighting poverty – or fighting the poor – than with equalizing conditions or offering the same opportunities for everyone.
