Bread&Net is an annual unconference that brings together activists, technologists, journalists, and policymakers to discuss and reimagine digital rights and social justice in the Arabic-speaking region. Organized by SMEX, Bread&Net offers a collaborative space for learning, strategizing, and building networks of solidarity.

نادًا إلى النتائج الرئيسية لأبحاث مركز العلوم الاجتماعية للأبحاث التطبيقية (تقرير، وموجز للسياسات، ورسم بياني)، تهدف الندوة، من جهة، إلى مناقشة تأثير الأنظمة القديمة والمعزولة التي أعاقت الاستجابة الفعّالة للأزمات. من جهة أخرى، ستتطرّق الجلسة أيضًا إلى آثار نظام الحماية الاجتماعية الموحّد الذي يضمن حصول الجميع دون استثناء على العدالة الاجتماعية، وكيف يمكن لنظام الحماية الاجتماعية الشامل أن يدعم بناء الدولة في نهاية المطاف.

Drawing on key findings from CeSSRA’s research (report, policy brief, and infographic), the webinar aims to discuss, on the one hand, how outdated, siloed systems have hindered effective crisis response. On the other, the session will also unpack the broader social justice implications of a unified system that ensures no one is left behind, and ultimately how a universal social protection system can support state-building.

LEB-CAAP is organizing an event that is specifically designed for local CSOs in Lebanon that are either youth-serving (with a primary mandate to support youth) or youth-focused (with programs targeting youth as a primary group). By bringing back the social question at the center of the analysis, this third seminar aims at providing an overview of the old and new social tensions that are currently crossing the Tunisian and Egyptian societies. By shedding a light on the forms and trajectories of social contention in Morocco and Jordan after 2011, this webinar aims at scrutinizing how the ‘return to the social question’ can help us to better understand the profound changes which have been crossing Arab societies in the past decade.

During this roundtable, Dr. Michele Scala will present the Centre for Social Sciences Research & Action ongoing work on social protection in Lebanon, analysing the articulation of intersectional discriminations and privileges of the current social protection framework, and proposing ways forward for reform. Participants will be invited to discuss the findings and share their insights.
