Let's Comics! 2012 - The Competition

If you’re a comics artist from Lebanon or the Middle East Region between 16 and 30 years old, don’t miss the chance to submit your original work to LET’S COMICS 2012: THE COMPETITION! Competition Rules: Up to 12 works will be selected for exhibition to the public during the Lebanese Comics Festival 2012 this coming October in Beirut. Let’s Comics 2012: The Competition is run within the framework of the project “Lebanese Comics Festival – A cultural EuroMed window for young comics artists” co-funded by the European Union and run by COSV (Italian NGO) and SPGIL (Syndicate of Professional Graphic Designers and Illustrators in Lebanon). The participants will have to submit a complete and original two-page comic (A3 format) inspired by ONE of the following themes: 1. International Day of Peace (1st January) 2. World Day of Social Justice (20th February) 3. World Water Day (22nd March) 4. International Mother Earth Day (22nd April) 5. World Press Freedom Day (3rd May) 6. World Refugee Day (20th June) 7. International Day of Friendship (30th July) 8. International Youth Day (12th August) 9. International Day of Democracy (15th September) 10. World Food Day (16th October) 11. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25th November) 12. World AIDS day (1st December). The work presented has to adhere to ONLY ONE of the above themes. All the participants accept that the material they will submit will be covered by the Creative Commons License (CC-BY-SA). For information about CC please visit this website: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Participants under 18 have to send a document signed by one of their parents authorizing the project to use the material according to the Creative Commons License. The participants will have to send their applications in DIGITAL COPY to the following address: letcomics@gmail.com All work has to be submitted according to these specifications: PDF file (can be zipped), max file weight 10 Mb. Works can be in color or black and white. Works submitted can contain text in Arabic, English or French. In case of Arabic text, a separate document with translation in English or French is required. Participants can submit only one work. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK IS 6th JULY 2012 Work received after that date will not be accepted for evaluation. A qualified Jury will select up to 12 works that will be exhibited during the Lebanese Comics Festival and will be published in the Festival Catalogue. The Jury will evaluate the works according to their artistic value and relation to the selected theme. Selected participants will be asked to provide their ORIGINAL art for exhibition during the festival. SPECIAL PRIZE: The Italian monthly magazine “Popoli” (magazine of information, analysis and consideration on international issues by the Italian Jesuits), sharing the aims of the initiative and the values of the themes proposed, has decided to create a special prize called “Comics to Bridge Cultures”, to promote a better understanding between different cultures even through Comics. The works submitted for the competition will also be evaluated by a special jury of “Popoli” who will select up to five authors to whom will be asked to produce starting at the end of 2012 a set of comics (up to two pages each) concerning International issues decided by the magazine. The comics will then be published during 2013. The agreement with the winners will not foresee any monetary compensation but this opportunity will give the special prize winners the chance of being published abroad. “Popoli” will reserve the right of not selecting any author in case the works received do not meet the magazine’s standard of quality. Winners of the project’s competition are also eligible to be selected for the Popoli Special Prize. Règlement du concours Jusqu’à 12 œuvres du concours seront sélectionnées pour l’exposition de la 5ème Edition du Festival International de la Bande Dessinée- Beyrouth , qui aura lieu en Octobre 2012 à Beyrouth. Le concours Let’s Comics 2012! est organisé dans le cadre du projet «Lebanese Comics Festival – A cultural EuroMed window for young comics artists » cofinancé par l’Union Européenne et dirigé par COSV (ONG italienne) et par le Syndicat des Professionnels du Graphisme et de l’Illustration au Liban (SPGIL). Les participants devront présenter une œuvre de BD complète et originale de deux pages (format A3) inspirée par l’UN des thèmes suivants: 1. Journée mondiale de la paix (1er Janvier) 2. Journée mondiale de la justice sociale (20 Février) 3. Journée mondiale de l’eau (22 Mars) 4. Journée mondiale de la Terre (22 Avril) 5. Journée internationale de la liberté de la presse (3 Mai) 6. Journée mondiale des réfugiés (20 Juin) 7. Journée internationale de l’amitié (30 Juillet) 8. Journée internationale de la jeunesse (12 Août) 9. Journée internationale de la démocratie (15 Septembre) 10. Journée mondiale de l’alimentation (16 Octobre) 11. Journée internationale pour l’élimination de la violence à l’égard des femmes (25 Novembre) 12. Journée mondiale de lutte contre le SIDA (1er Décembre). L’œuvre présenté doit traiter SEULEMENT UN des thèmes mentionnés ci-dessus.. En soumettant leur œuvres, les participants au concours acceptent de distribuer tout le matériel envoyé avec des licences Creative Commons (CC-BY-SA). Les œuvres doivent être envoyées en fichier informatique à l’adresse: letcomics@gmail.com Tous leurs œuvres doivent respecter les caractéristiques suivantes: Fichier PDF (on peut le compresser au format zip), taille maximum de 10 Mb. Couleur ou noir et blanc. Si on utilise du texte, les langues acceptées sont l’arabe, l’anglais et le français. Les œuvres en langue arabe doivent présenter dans un document séparé une traduction en anglais ou en français. Seulement une œuvre pour participant est acceptée. LES OEUVRES DOIVENT ÊTRE DÉPOSÉES AVANT LE 6 JUILLET 2012. Toutes les œuvres reçues après cette date ne seront pas admises à la phase d’évaluation. Un jury de professionnels sélectionnera les 12 œuvres qui seront exposées au le Festival International de La Bande Dessinée- Beyrouth 2012 et publiées dans le Catalogue du Festival. Les œuvres seront évaluées en fonction de la valeur artistique du dessin et la pertinence du scenario du thème sélectionné. On demandera aux lauréats sélectionnés d’envoyer la copie originale des œuvres, qui sera exposée au Festival. PRIX SPÉCIAL: La revue mensuelle italienne “Popoli” (une revue d’information, analyse et réflexion sur les thèmes internationaux publiée par les Jésuites italiens), en partageant le but de l’initiative et l’importance des thèmes proposés, offrira un prix spécial du nom de « Comics to bridge cultures» dans le but de promouvoir la compréhension entre les différentes cultures, et ceci à travers la Bande Dessinée. Les œuvres présentées au concours seront évaluées aussi par une jury spéciale de « Popoli », qui sélectionnera jusqu’à 5 artistes auxquelles la revue demandera – à partir de la fin du 2012 – la production d’une série de BD (deux pages chacune) sur des questions internationales décidées par la rédaction. Les BD seront publiées dans Popoli en 2013. L’accord avec les gagnants du Prix Spécial ne prévoit aucune compensation financière , mais les artistes sélectionnés pour ce prix auront l’occasion d’être publiés à l’étranger et bénéficieront d’une visibilité internationale. Popoli se réserve le droit de ne sélectionner aucun artiste si les œuvres reçues ne satisferont pas les critères de la revue. (اليوم العالمي للإيدز (1 ديسمبر. العمل المقدم يجب أن يرتبط فقط بأحد المواضيع المذكورة أعلاه CC-BY-SA :CC يجب على جميع المشاركين التعهد ان جميع المواد المقدمة ستكون مرخصة من قبل الجهة المختصة :للحصول على المزيد من المعلومات الرجاء زيارة الموقع التالي http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ يتوجب على المشاركين دون سن 18 عاما أرسال وثيقة موقعة من قبل أحد والديهم تجيز استخدام المواد ضمن المشروع وذلك وفقا لرخصة :سوف يتعين على المشاركين إرسال نسخة عن أعمالهم إلى العنوان التالي letcomics@gmail.com :كل الأعمال يجب تقديمها وفقا لهذه المواصفات ملف PDF (يمكن مضغوط)، الحد الأقصى للوزن ملف 10 ميغابايت. يمكن أن تقدم الأعمال بالألوان او في الأبيض والأسود. ييمكن للأعمال المقدمة ان تحتوي على نص باللغة العربية أو الإنكليزية أو الفرنسية. في حالة وجود نص بالغة العربية يتوجب على المشترك تقديم وثيقة منفصلة مع ترجمة باللغة الانكليزية أو الفرنسية . يتاح للمشاركين إمكانية تقديم عمل واحد فقط الموعد النهائي لتقديم عملك 6 يوليو 2012 جميع الأعمال المقدمة بعد ذلك التاريخ لن تتاهل إلى مرحلة التقييم. لجنة من المختصين ستقوم باختيار 12 من الأعمال المقدمة التي ستعرض خلال مهرجان الكاريكاتير اللبناني، وسيتم نشرها في كتالوج المهرجان. فإن لجنة التحكيم ستقيم الأعمال وفقا لقيمتها الفنية وعلاقتها بالموضوع. وسيطلب من المشاركين المختارين لتقديم الفن الأصلي للعرض خلال المهرجان :الجائزة الخاصة المجلة الإيطالية الشهرية «بوبولي» (مجلة من المعلومات والتحليلات والنظر في القضايا الدولية من قبل اليسوعيون)، تتقاسم أهداف المبادرة والقيم في المواضيع المقترحة، قررت إنشاء جائزة خاصة تدعى «جسر الثقافات الكاريكاتوري «، لتشجيع تفاهم أفضل بين الثقافات المختلفة حتى من خلال للشريط المصور الأعمال المشاركة في المسابقة سيتم تقييمها من قبل لجنة من الحكام المختصين من قبل مجلة بوبولي. ستختار اللجنة خمسة من الكتاب الذين سيطلب منهم إنتاج بدءا من نهاية عام 2012 مجموعة من القصص المصورة (حوالي صفحتين لكل منهما) تتعلق بالقضايا الدولية وستكون اللجنة المجلة مسؤولة عن القرارات والمواضيع. وبعد ذلك يتم نشرالرسوم الكاريكاتيرية خلال عام 2013. لا يتوقع أي تعويض مالي للفائز ولكن هذه الفرصة سوف تعطي الفائزين جائزة خاصة تتضمن إنتشار اعمالهم في الخارج. سوف تحتفظ المجلة بحقنها في عدم اختيار أحد الأعمال إذا اعتبرت ان الأعمال لا تلبي معايير الجودة للمجلة. ويحق للفائزين في مسابقة للمشروع التي سيتم اختيارها أيضا نيل جائزة المجلة
