The Health Officer will provide medical assistance and counseling in response to the needs of refugees and asylum-seekers with major and minor health problems. The HO will perform a variety of tasks and duties intending to support the ongoing of the project implementation, to make the project and related activities successful, to find the best solutions for beneficiaries
DUTIES
Act as a reference point to refugees in need of medical assistance
Provide guidance and proper referral to refugees seeking primary or secondary health care with the assistance of the medical consultant if needed
Coordinate with different associations and NGOs to ensure appropriate referrals and assistance of vulnerable cases and to avoid duplication
Receive and assess patients coming to the center and provide assistance as necessary
Ensure home visits for patients in need: disabled, elderly, conduct health assessment, and provide guidance to the families on how to care for the patients
Keep track of the cases and report about them on a monthly basis
Follow-up on medical cases in need of assistance in secondary health care settings: collect needed documents – get Caritas consultant approval – contact hospitals and patients – ensure collection of related bills – perform related data entry and reporting
Follow-up with hospitals for inpatient cases, and perform hospital visits for certain patients when needed
Analyze, create and share the needs among refugees related to health education
Prepare health educational materials and flyers to be used for awareness sessions
Conduct health awareness sessions to groups of refugees. Plan, contact participants, implement sessions, ensure related documentation and reporting
Responsible of the equipment and medical supplies available at the center if any, in term of request and regular check-up
Attend the health meetings and represent Caritas health unit as needed
Attend meetings with hospitals to improve coordination and medical services.
Coordinate daily and regularly with the social workers, and the head of the health unit
Perform data collection related to services provided to refugees
Issue relevant reports as needed
Perform other duties related to health projects for refugees as needed
