Peacebuilding And Human Rights Workshop Facilitator - Consultant

Job Purpose   International Alert is seeking a consultant or team of consultants, an expert(s) in the fields of peacebuilding and Human Rights.  The consultant or team of consultants will implement and facilitate community-based initiatives on peacebuilding; working with refugee and vulnerable host-population youths in the Alert’s project areas of Central and North Bekaa, and Akkar.  Alert is setting-up 15 community groups, comprising of 15 participants per group (225 participants overall).  The 15 groups are to receive a 3-day workshop on basic social peace, and a 3-day advanced workshop on the different types of violence, peacebuilding tracks, and conflict resolution mechanisms.  In addition, the 15 community-groups will be divided into 8 groups to implement 8 distinct community-based initiatives.    Duties and Responsibilities  1.     Workshop Implementation and Facilitation Prepare training/workshop content and materials, targeting Syrian and Lebanese youths aged 16-25. Implement and facilitate 15 workshops for 15-participants/workshop; 3-days per workshop on topic of peace and conflict [Basic Social Peace Workshop]. Implement and facilitate 3 advanced workshops for 15-participants/workshop; 3 days per workshop on understanding of conflict issues, the different types of violence, peace-building, and conflict-resolution mechanisms.   2. Community- Based Initiatives In coordination with Alert, to identify 8 community-based initiatives that will focus on protection and livelihood.  Provide support to the community-based initiative groups in the writing and submission of concept notes, budgets, and work-plans for the community-based initiatives to be led by the workshop participants. Follow-up and monitor the progress and outcomes of the community-based projects.  3.     Monitoring & Evaluation, Documentation To monitor and evaluate the workshop process, and the impact of the community-based initiatives.  Recording successes and lessons learned.  Qualitative and quantitative data.    PERSON SPECIFICATION Talents   At Alert, we have introduced Talent Management to our business model as we believe talented people are crucial to the success of our work.  We believe all individuals are talented and success comes in matching the right talents to the right roles.  For this role, the skills, qualifications and experience listed below are important, but we believe that to be great in this job you are likely to have a talent for building and sustaining strong working relationships.  This will enable you to build friendly relationship with highly committed colleagues and manage expectations. These are the talents we will be looking for above all else.         ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS BA or equivalent in social and political sciences, human rights, or other relevant disciplines Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working with a development organisation, including significant experience working at field level. Previous experience in Group Facilitation and Workshop Implementation   Fluent in Arabic and English, excellent communication skills in Arabic are a must Able to influence and motivate others by making their case Demonstrates the ability to take the initiative Understands or has the ability to understand quickly Alert’s approach to peacebuilding Gets on well with people of diverse backgrounds and in diverse roles Is computer literate and numerate Excellent inter-personal, communication and presentation skills Skills and experience in monitoring, and evaluation Strong analytical skills A clear commitment to the mission and vision of International Alert   SUMMARY TERMS AND CONDITIONS For consideration To submit to Alert a draft proposal and outline of tentative workshop topics and draft workshop-agenda; with a clear breakdown of the workshop objectives.   To submit a detailed budget; with a break-down of costs and expenses for the delivery of the workshops, preparations of the content, and the rate-per-day for the consultation.    Currencies must be submitted in USD.
