English Coordinator

KAYANY is a Lebanese non-governmental organization founded in 2013 [Reg. # 1806] to assist and educate the most vulnerable Syrian refugee children. We provide free and secular schooling to more than 3,000 refugee children between the ages of 6 to 14, and to more than 300 Syrian refugee girls between the ages of 14 to 18. Our clean and comfortable learning environments offer students one meal a day and an escape from the difficulties of settlement life. We teach basic numeracy and literacy, as well as the Lebanese curriculum, which includes science, math, art and the English language. Our schools are accredited by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.  Job Purpose: Under the guidance and supervision of the Education Consultants and in cooperation with the Education Officer, the English Coordinator will be responsible for observing and monitoring the English curriculum implementation at each of Kayany’s schools along other project requirements. The EC will mainly be following up and training schools supervisors and observing teachers’ performance in Kayany schools. He/She is expected to work in accordance with the organization’s core values: dedication, innovation, inclusivity and accountability. Job Responsibilities: I.                   Program Implementation Support Set the needed curriculum to each level; Train the teachers; Finalize operational work plans with the education team; understand targets and activity plans per school; Implement educational assessments (i.e. teachers’ training needs, student participation levels, school management, parents/community involvement in education…etc.); Ensure that the project implementation is realized in a timely manner and as per the objectives and planned activities; Ensure that Kayany activities are implemented in accordance to INEE Minimum Standards for Education in Emergency, Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (including monitoring of child abuse and/or mistreatment); Monitor the evaluation given by the school supervisors after performing in-class observations for the teachers; Assist in the organization and implementation of English trainings and workshops; Lead on student’s registration activities; Lead on conducting interviews with the new English teachers as per the need; Ensure all project documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner; Attend UN coordination meeting when required; Ensure that the English reports of students’ data are well organized in each school; Involve in the preparation for the English exam process and ensure that all the schools are following the same grading system and standards;    II.          Monitoring and Evaluation Participate in education-specific monitoring and evaluating project activities in the classes; Produce weekly reports for the headmaster and coordinator for internal use on the ongoing activities of the project and schools; Ensure that student’s data in all the schools is collected on a weekly and monthly basis; Regularly visit project sites to ensure that implementing partners and teachers are appropriately supported; Evaluate school supervisors and submit the report to the coordinator on a monthly basis; Reports to:  Project Manager – Operations Manager Supervision that must be received: Supervision is provided by the Project Manager Qualifications: Qualified and experienced teacher and social worker Knowledge & relevant experience in Lebanese national curriculum Knowledge of child protection rules and regulations Ability to work under pressure Strong documentation, research and report writing skills Willingness to travel to multiple field sites Good computer skills Experience required: Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in education Background in curriculum and syllabus design. Training provision in: active learning/child-centered approaches/classroom management/group…etc.
