American University of Beirut Seeking Part-time Instructors of English for Innovative Vocational Program For Low-Income Lebanese and Refugee Young Adults in Aley Term of Work: October 16 or 23 – December 8 or 15 Min Hours 15 in 1 week (Oct 16-20 or Oct 23-27) Max Hours 130 Hours over 8 weeks (Oct 16 – Dec 15) (Details below) This is a great opportunity to strengthen the capacity of people in need and improve your own skills through professional development. Key areas of Responsibility • Lead English class of up to 25 participants. • Coach in basic English conversational skills. • Train students in basic IT-related vocabulary and language. • Train students in soft skills through conversational skills Key Characteristics • Passionate working with young people and disadvantaged communities • Able to communicate with young and disadvantaged communities. Qualifications • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in TEFL or English language • Experience in teaching/ training (training in underprivileged communities would be an added advantage) • Good presentation and communication (verbal and written) skills • Good facilitation and time management skills • Knowledge of soft skills required for workplace readiness • Fluency in English and Arabic is essential Details of class days and times: Oct 16-20: Monday through Friday: 9-12 and/or 2-5 Oct 23 – 27: Monday through Friday: 9-12 and/or 2-5 and/or Mon, Wed, Fri 12-2 October 30 – Dec 8: Mon, Wed, Fri and/or Tues, Thurs 12-2 Dec 8 - Dec 15: Tues, Thurs 12-2   Background: The American University of Beirut - Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service (AUB - CCECS), and the World Food Program are partnering to provide innovative Information Technology (IT) training to low-income refugee and Lebanese young adults (ages 16-25). In the pilot project, a six-week training will be offered at AUB for 100 very low-income Syrian refugees and Lebanese young adults between the ages of 16-25. By the end of the course, participants with no previous IT experience or English-language background will be ready to participate in the digital economy as sources for large-scale data projects which have been broken down into pieces that can be easily accomplished, such as tagging images in a photo. The English curriculum has been developed by AUB English language instructors.
