Community Midwife

Project Aim Provide a home visiting service for maternal and child health to lower health risks during pregnancy, to provide screening and monitoring of infants and young children and prevent child deaths. Purpose of the community midwife role To provide home-based health screening, health care and health advice to mothers and infants up to 1 year of age. The post holder will be responsible for managing their own caseload. They will be expected to make complex autonomous clinical decisions regarding patient care with support and supervision from clinical lead. Full time position, 5 days/week; the outreach work is based in Nahr el Bared refugee camp; travel to Beirut for training and coordination purposes occasionally required Main responsibilities 1.       provision of maternal and child care a.       home visiting in the ante natal and post natal periods to assess potential risk to mother and infant in co-ordination with UNWRA and other health providers b.      provide necessary referrals to clinical medical and social support providers c.       provide evidence based antenatal care in home settings according to project and international care standards d.      Provide evidence based post natal care in home settings according to Project and international care standards e.      Provide care and assessment of infant up to 1 year in home settings according to project and international standards of IMCH. f.        Follow up on care plans to ensure high quality patient care is given in the community. g.       To support exclusive breastfeeding through advice support and management of feeding difficulties h.      Provide counseling and advice on infant growth and development,  supporting parents through positive parenting approaches. i.         To support management of anemia in both mothers and infants in home settings j.        To screen for UTI/RHI infections in the ante partum, intra partum and post partum period. k.       To support contraception choices for post partum women in accordance with evidence based international guidelines and project standards. l.         To provide post abortion support and counseling m.    To provide evidence based preconception counseling and support n.      To maintain records and care plans to agreed standards   Other responsibilities 1.       coordinate closely with project administrator to maintain and transfer data for data management 2.       support assigned community mothers teams for the provision of social care and health education support 3.       participate in training and maintain required levels of competency and skills development   The contractor engages to: 1.       maintain patient confidentiality 2.       support informed choices and patient consent 3.       respect and enhance a mothers’ knowledge of her child 4.       be open to supporting alternatives to pharmaceutical inputs for maintaining the wellbeing of mother and child 5.       ensure compliance with MAP’s Child Protection policy and with HAP standards
