humedica is baed in Kaufbeuren, Germany, and has been operating in Lebanon since 2012. Currently the project is funded by the German Foreign Office. humedica is running two Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), serving approximately 35 informal tented settlements (ITS) in the Bekaa valley, providing free primary health care and medication for Syrian refugees. In addition, humedica is supporting Primary Health Care Centers (PCHs) (under the administration of Ministry of Public Health) for both Lebanese and Syrian patients. The midwife is part of the MMU team and provides, among others, antenatal care, post natal care, family planning and awareness sessions inside the Informal Settlements.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Monitoring and examination of women during pregnancy: home visits to provide antenatal care, post natal care and family planning inside the Informal Settlements
Following WHO guidelines for antenatal care as well as other relevant guidelines and Lebanese regulations
Referral of high risks pregnancies to the nearest PHC centres and hospitals for specialist care, laboratory investigations and ultrasounds
Provide information of supported hospitals for delivery in order to make delivery plan by the pregnant mothers.
Conduct awareness sessions for pregnant and lactating women in the camp (max. 10 per session) including how to deliver daily care for the baby, breast feeding, bathing, family planning, etc.
Perform case management including delivering medications and providing relevant explanations to the patients
Arranging and providing parenting and health education for the woman, her partner and family if needed
Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities (correctly fill in patient files, forms, statistics, reports)
Follow-Up on selected individual patients in coordination with Country Coordinator, Special Case Officers and Specialists
Ensure a relevant transfer of information
Other tasks may occur
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Midwife Position for currently 80% (32 hours/week)
Contract till 12 of February 2018 with possibility of extension, starting date as soon as possible (31 of july 2017)
Working hours Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm
Post based in the humedica MMU in Zahle and Central Bekaa. With your team (Doctors, pharmacists, field officers,MHPSS worker), you will visit one or two different tented settlement each day. Each settlement is visited once per month.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Min. 1 to 3 years experience as a midwife
Experience with community outreach / awareness sessions desired
Midwife degree/diploma recognized by National Authorities
Experience working with NGO is helpful, but not mandatory
Valid driving license
High motivation for challenging and complex tasks and good common sense
Strong skills in communication, mediation and cooperation
Ability to work in challenging conditions (e.g. tent, weather, noise) and to cope with challenging security context
Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team and participate in all activities of the MMU
Ability and willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment
Flexibility, reliability
Fluent Arabic and good English language skills are mandatory
