Field Coordinator

Job Statement  The Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (LMTA) was established in October 2007 to develop, protect and promote the Lebanon Mountain Trail (LMT). The LMTA is a non-profit, non-political and secular organization. Its vision is to maintain the 470km path for hiking and recreation, while protecting and conserving the cultural and natural heritage along the trail, and providing opportunities for sustainable income. The LMT Association is seeking a motivated Field Coordinator to assume coordination work on a project in the north of Lebanon, LMT sections 3 to 10, between Qemmamine and Aqoura. The assignment falls under the Conservation and Development of Economic Opportunities on the Lebanon Mountain Trail pilot project, funded by the European Union under the OMSAR-AFKAR III Program. The pilot project is implemented in collaboration with COSPE and the Italian Association for Responsible Tourism (AITR). Under this pilot project and following a participatory process, the LMTA will support the local communities (municipalities and stakeholders) in the target area, in developing practical actions to develop and sustain the trail and the trailside heritage, and to develop an economically viable destination, through the integration of sustainability measures, best practices and conservation policies. Several activities such as trainings, group planning and implementation of micro support projects are planned. Responsibilities and Tasks  The Field Coordinator will play an important role in mobilizing the local community around the project and follow up with relevant stakeholders on the proper implementation of the planned activities. The Coordinator tasks include the following: Monitor the implementation of the project activities and liaise with and provide guidance to project stakeholders to ensure that activities  are being properly implemented Attend and report on activities implemented by local stakeholders in the area Arrange logistics for meetings, events, and workshops Take notes at meetings, focus group discussions, and workshops Identify potential and key players to involve in the project area Attend coordination meetings with project staff (including meetings in Baabda/ Beirut) Profile Required  Natural energy and commitment to/ interest in conservation, community development and or responsible tourism. Being an outdoor adventurer/ hiker and a nature-lover is a plus Ethical, responsible, self-driven and timely on deliverables Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Team player and able to communicate with different types of people A minimum of 2 years relevant experience, ideally previous coordination work with municipalities and local community stakeholders, in fields such as  conservation, rural and tourism development, and other relevant sectors Previous work in rural areas, preferably in the project area: Minieh el – Danniye, Bsharre- Zgharta, Batroun, and surroundings Language proficiency in spoken and written Arabic and English required, French is a plus Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, etc.) University degree in social work, environmental studies, conservation, tourism, rural development or any other relevant studies Able to write progress reports Preferably based in the north of Lebanon in one of the project areas Flexible and able to work on week-ends and to commute frequently to rural area. Preference if motorized
