Juvenile Justice Program Manager Assistant – Researcher
Job description
As part of the new country strategy on Juvenile Justice and in line with Terre des hommes (Tdh) global strategy 2030, Tdh is launching in 2017 an action research intervention aiming at mapping and documenting the different pathways for children accessing justice in Lebanon, with an especial focus on the informal justice dimension.
In order to support the Juvenile Justice Program Manager (JJPM) and her team implementing this intervention, Tdh is recruiting two Program Manager Assistant – Research (PMA-R)
With the support and in coordination with the JJPM, the PMA-R will be mainly responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the ‘Informal Justice system’ research component. This specific research component aims at assessing the religious and non-religious community-based conflict resolution systems in vulnerable Lebanese communities and Syrian communities in Lebanon. The geographical scope of this research component will be some of the most vulnerable areas in South Lebanon, including the cazas of Tyr and Saida, with the possibility for the geographical scope to be broaden to Beirut area.
The contribution and participation of the PMA-R in the other research components may also be required, as per the program needs. The specific tasks and responsibilities regarding the other research components would be discussed and agreed together with the JJPM based on the needs of the project.
As part of an action oriented research intervention, the PMA-R could be also required to participate in the implementation of a number of pilot action oriented activities related to the findings progressively collected through the life of the research.
Main activities and deliverables
Research component(s)
- Participate together with the JJPM in defining the scope of the specific research component based on agreed overall indicators and methodology
- Participate together with the JJPM in designing and developing the research methodology and data collection tools based on the agreed overall indicators and methodology
- Elaborate, develop, implement and monitor a research action plan according to an agreed timeframe, under a supervision of the JJPM
- Organize, plan and conduct field visits according to the research action plan, with the support of the JJPM and Tdh logistic and security department and according to Tdh internal procedures
- Conduct data collection and data analysis under the supervision of the JJPM.
- Present the research findings under the form of a report or agreed similar support
Programmatic component
- Support the JJPM on networking tasks with local and national stakeholders
- Other activities as per the needs of the project and agreed with the JJPM
Required profile
- Social sciences or Law graduate, preferably specialized in the Lebanese Juvenile legal system (Law 422, Family law and related national legal framework) and Child Rights.
- Master’s Degree in a related field or area of interest will be an asset.
- Previous research experience in the field of social sciences or similar is required. A previous community-based research experience in Lebanon will be an asset.
- Full command, written and spoken, of Arabic and English is compulsory. Command of French will be an asset.
- A valid driving license is required (use of personal car may be required, with reimbursement of fuel expenses)
- Thorough, autonomous, flexible, detailed-oriented person.
- Excellent reporting skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Aligned with Tdh values and mission.
Condition of the position
- The required position is a full time employment. The type of contract, salary conditions & benefits will be discussed directly with the short listed candidate/s.
- The duration of the contract is 6 months, until 31st December 2017.
- The position will require approximately 80% of field work and 20% of office work.
- The candidate will be preferably based in Tyr. However, Tdh will be willing to negotiate for the candidate to be based in Beirut if he/she is able to assure his/her deployment to the field when required.
