JOB TITLE: Women and Girls Safe Spaces Coordinator
Location: Mount Lebanon
ABAAD PURPOSE:
ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings. “Ending Gender-Based Violence: towards standardization and strengthening quality of services and direct response” is an initiative aiming at reducing the risks of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through women, boys and girls empowerment and improving the quality of multi-sectorial assistance for women and girls survivors or at risk of GBV among the host and Syrian refugee population.
BACKGROUND:

The WGSS Coordinator position in ABAAD is responsible to oversee the day to day implementation of the Women & Girls Safe Spaces’ within the communities, providing technical support to various community-outreach activities, coordinating with local stakeholders, and ensuring buy-in of the local population and oversee establishment and operation of community-led initiatives as well as ensure mentoring for provision of quality case management services to women & girls affected by GBV. The coordinator is also responsible to supervise all programs’ components related to awareness-raising on protection, prevention, response and self-protection for boys/girls and adolescents and ensure representation at various local coordination groups.
The coordinator will work 50% of the time in center and 50% in the field.
JOB PURPOSE:
The WGSS Coordinator is responsible for working within the SDC and supervises technically and the admin/financial work of the psychosocial social workers, child care attendant and the drivers.
REPORTING LINES: Post holder reports directly to: Women and Girls National Safe Space Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide ongoing supervision, leadership and technical support and guidance to all WPE program staff in their respective areas of coverage
- Organize regular meetings with the SDC team (director and shadow person and WGSS team) to oversee the weekly and monthly work plans
- Organize weekly technical capacity meetings with SDC team for transfer of knowledge and skills around WGSS model
- Support the conceptualizing and rolling out of work plan as needed and in response to identified needs and project goals and objectives
- Attend on weekly basis the mobile psychosocial support activities and information/awareness sessions with women and girls planned and those implemented within the SDC
- Support COMs to identify gateways for the provision of community outreach activities
- Assess and evaluate the quality of implemented work on a monthly basis & submit reports
- Collect, compile and analyze monthly reports from the team and submit to central level
- Work closely with the WGSS PM on all issues related to programs and activities
- Write monthly reports pertaining to the activities
- Provide on the job coaching to employees in the field and identify training needs and ensuring organizing regular capacity development trainings to team members as needed
- Work with team members on setting up performance objectives and conduct regular performance appraisal on bi-annual basis
- Attend regularly the GBV and CP working group
Other Activities:
- Collaborate closely with ABAAD TEAM at large.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Submit weekly and monthly reports.
- Respect ABAAD Code of Conduct and its PSEA Policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager and ABAAD Director.
Skills and Competencies:
- MA in social work or BA with at least 2-3 years of experience in GBV programming, preferably in an emergency context or any closely related field
- At least 1 year of experience supervising a team providing GBV related services
- Knowledge of GBV prevention and response in emergencies programming
- Experience working directly with refugees and other groups
- Experience working directly with women and girls
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to human rights, gender equality, non-discrimination
- Flexible pro-active attitude
- Ability to work well as an individual and in a team
- Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment
- Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts
- Experience drafting reports
- Belief in ABAAD’s mission and vision
- Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English. French is a plus.
- Must be computer literate, including Microsoft word and excel.
