Communication And Social Media Officer

Sharq is a non-profit organisation working on media development and documentation of citizen narratives in the Arab world. Our activities include publishing online and in print, to give individuals a platform and voice; the provision of training, through workshops and practical work; and organising events that enable exchange and development of ideas and expression Sharq is looking for a communication and social media officer to join our team of dedicated talented professionals. The role is part time - the equivalent of two days a week - working out of our office in Beirut. If you’re a high-energy collaborator ready to take on a pivotal role with a non-profit organisation, don’t let this opportunity pass you by.  This position is central to ensuring that all internal and external communications adhere to strategic messaging objectives.  You’ll work closely with other staff to initiate, coordinate and execute relevant, powerful communications approaches.     Specific responsibilities will include: Writing, editing and transmitting consistently branded messages for all communications across multiple platforms including updates and alerts, mass emails, website updates and media releases. Creating and executing social media strategy to include tracking metrics for all social networking activities. Working with the Arabic copy writer to prepare bi-lingual messaging. Collating, editing and disseminating the organisation’s electronic newsletter (6 issues per year), to include establishing themes and due dates, soliciting articles, conducting interviews when appropriate, and managing blog posts for newsletter columnists. Supporting event marketing collateral production Maintaining communications calendar and coordinating message scheduling and content with staff Developing proficiency with relevant public relations, web content, design/layout and social networking software and platforms, including WordPress and Adobe (primarily Ilustrator and InDesign) Qualifications: Along with proven ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders at all levels, strong attention to details, excellent prioritization skills, and a track record that demonstrates proactivity in driving results, you’ll need: Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field and at least 1 year of relevant work experience in communications/marketing and social networking (experience with an NGO highly desirable) Stellar copywriting and editing skills Fluency in English; good level of Arabic desirable Experience using social media to increase/track audience engagement, with knowledge of social media best practices, online media tools/resources, and traditional and emerging media channels Experience updating Wordpress websites, sending out mass emails, and ability to quickly learn other online software tools Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and produce high-quality work under deadline pressure and rapidly changing priorities Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop/Illustrator preferred, and graphic design experience desirable Location: Beirut How to Apply: For confidential consideration, please send cover letter, resume, two writing samples (preferably at least one example of marketing or promotional copy) and links to social media accounts which you have managed to vacancySMO[at]sharq.orgSharq for citizen developmentvisit our website at www.sharq.org
