General Practitioner

  General practitioner provides primary and continuing medical care for the prisoners at the places of detention on all Lebanese territory. He takes account of physical, emotional and social factors when diagnosing illness and recommending the required treatment. He works as part of AJEM team alongside other healthcare professionals (nurses), and helps patients to take responsibility for their own health.   Responsibilities responding to medical/health problems presented by patients including history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate Since all the patients are located in detention areas, the physician is responsible for visiting them for their consultation. In case of emergency, the physician should also see the needed patient outside of his usual schedule. This is to ensure that he is malleable and ready for any urgent, unplanned cases. maintaining confidentiality and impartiality promoting health education in conjunction with other health professionals in the detention places organizing preventative medical programs for individual patients providing special care for specific conditions or for certain groups, e.g. diabetes, smoking cessation meeting set by the government for specific treatments targets Managing resources to handle targets as effectively as possible. have basic abilities for work, such as maintaining patients' records using specific packages; keeping up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications, including complementary medicine. Arranging appropriate provision for continuity of care for prisoners as patients Providing advice to patients and their relatives on rehabilitation following an illness. Providing advice to patients and their relatives during a terminal illness. Input into the treatment programs for drug misusing prisoners in conjunction with nursing, social work and psychological colleagues and Health Care Standards, ensuring treatment is inclusive in overall primary care delivery Involvement in the establishment’s Drug strategy in order to provide medical input for those suffering the effects of alcohol and drug withdrawal at the time of admission or during their sentence. Prepares and presents monthly reports Arranges and organizes meetings with AJEM management and Staff to emphasize the medical situation inside the prisons.
