Fashion Design Intern - Non Remunerated

UTOPIA’s purpose is to inspire a culture of civic awareness and equal citizenship in the Lebanese society through specialized projects and programs that rely on voluntary work to make the change we aim at achieving.   As part of her duties, an intern researches trends and current fashions, buys fabrics and pulls together accessories to complement created pieces. Interns assist with fabric cutting and sewing, pattern making and setting up showrooms. The intern places orders with suppliers and corresponds with sales representatives and companies who produce the designer's pieces. Along with the more exciting duties, many fashion design interns also fulfill other more mundane responsibilities. Interns provide administrative support, answering phones, checking and replying to e-mail and even monitoring the designer's or company's social media outlets.An intern may also create promotional material, such as newsletters, ads and press releases. Interns run any errands, such as preparing mailings, setting up meetings and making copies. Description: keeping up to date with emerging fashion trends as well as general trends relating to fabrics, colours and shapes; planning and developing ranges; working with others in the design team, such as buyers and forecasters, to develop products to meet a brief; liaising closely with sales, buying and production teams on an ongoing basis to ensure the item suits the customer, market and price points; understanding design from a technical perspective, i.e. producing patterns, toiles and technical specifications for designs; sourcing, selecting and buying fabrics, trims, fastenings and embellishments; adapting existing designs for mass production; developing a pattern that is cut and sewn into sample garments and supervising the creation of these, including fitting, detailing and adaptations; managing marketing, finances and other business activities, if working on a self-employed basis.
