Education Officer

Intro: TdH- It is implementing an EU- funded (‘Madad Fund’) emergency education project, ‘Back to the Future’ in consortium with AVSI (lead agency) and War Child Holland. Together, the consortium will support formal and non-formal activities for vulnerable preschool and school aged boys and girls (over 3 years old) in Lebanon and Jordan. Activities include; school rehabilitation, remedial classes, foreign language classes, homework support and PSS activities.  Terre des Hommes Italy (TdH- It) is recruiting an Education Officer to work for the consortium in Mount Lebanon region to support the implementation of the ‘Back to the Future’ project, aimed at supporting Syrian Refugees and affected host populations with education activities.  Job Purpose: With an anticipated start date of March 1st 2017, TdH-It is seeking an experienced Education Officer to provide technical support to the implementation of education activities in Mount Lebanon region. This includes designing and delivering training on educational methods, standards and best practice to community center coordinators, outreach workers teachers and animators. The Education Officer will manage a team of outreach workers and volunteers in Mount Lebanon region, to identify and refer vulnerable children to the project’s education activities.  Key Responsibilities: Contribute to the preparation of relevant documents (including brochures, information notes, information board updates) for target communities. Organise and conduct monthly meetings and trainings for outreach workers/volunteers in collaboration with the Education Coordinator. Monitor the outreach workers/volunteer’s task and referrals, and support the identification of project beneficiaries. Participate in planning education activities including focus groups, awareness sessions, trainings, and others; in cooperation with the Education Coordinator. Providing timely and detailed reporting of project activities to the Education Coordinator. Support in training teachers and animators to use new/revised curriculum for different educational activities (ECE, BLN, Remedial classes and Foreign Language classes). Represent TDH IT in local and national coordination meetings and working groups, concerning education. Support community centers that deliver educational activities to monitor children’s educational progress; train them in monitoring tools and observe their activities to give guidance on how they can improve the quality of their delivery.   Analyse technical added-value and project impact; set up technical evaluation exercises during and following implementation. Experience required: Education: University Masters degree in education, sociology, social work, social sciences or related field required.  Experience and competencies:  Essential: 3 years of relevant progressively responsible professional experience, including experience at field level, with at least 1 years experience working in an NGO/emergency setting. Previous experience implementing or advising on education projects in conflict-affected or post-conflict settings required, with preferred expertise in areas such as community-based education, student assessments, teacher training, curriculum and/or educational materials development, educational management, and educational monitoring and information systems. Demonstrated teaching and training design and delivery experience required; Experience in education project coordination, and monitoring; Experience in managing a team of field staff, including volunteers Excellent collaboration skills with local, national, and civil society stakeholders. Experience of working with Lebanese public schools to support education activities. Strong personnel leadership skills, particularly mentoring skills. Experience of working with a diverse team. Strong writing and demonstrated critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate in Arabic, fluency in English required. Computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).  Desirable: Experience of working on an EU funded project/knowledge of EU rules and regulations.
