Title: Qualitative Field Researchers (6 to 8 researchers)

Purpose
Oxfam in Lebanon is planning for an evaluation of the hygiene voucher modality used in Lebanon. The evaluation will take place in February and March 2017, and will cover Oxfam’s areas of intervention in North Bekaa (Btedaai, Chlifa, Deir El-Ahmar, Haouch Tall Safiye, Haouch Barada, Haour Taala, Jebaa, Saide, Bouday). Additional external capacity is required for the field data collection phase of the evaluation. Oxfam is seeking to deploy additional short-term capacity to assist in carrying out the evaluation, specifically for qualitative data collection involving focus group discussions, and possibly semi-structured interviews.
Key responsibilities
Participate in training sessions on the qualitative tools and data collection protocols prior to the start of field data collection
Assist in the pre-testing of data collection tools as required
Carry out qualitative data collection in selected areas in North Bekaa using provided tools, and adhering to agreed procedures and guidelines. This will involve facilitating and recording of focus group discussions and possibly conducting semi-structured interviews (to be confirmed by the evaluation team)
Participate in post-data collection debriefs and discussions
Report/ transcribe collected data (in English) and support the documentation and coding of collected data in English as per agreed methods using provided templates
Be available to provide clarifications during the data analysis phase, and perform any changes requested by the evaluation team
Assist in qualitative data analysis and interpretation if required
Deliverables will be confirmed by the evaluation team, but are expected to include the English language transcripts of the data collected with provided tools, using agreed reporting templates (in MS Word or another software).

Skills and competence
Individuals that meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
Currently pursuing or completed Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, or a relevant field from a recognised university
Demonstrable experience in carrying out qualitative data collection and transcription is required, including experience in the facilitation and recording of focus group discussions and conduct of semi-structured interviews
Strong interviewing capacity and facilitation skills
Excellent command of English and Arabic (reading, writing and speaking). Strong note-taking and reporting skills
Knowledge of and practical experience with MS Office
Experience in performing qualitative data analysis is a plus
Experience working with refugees is preferable
Excellent ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, and excellent interpersonal skills
Flexibility, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to meet deadlines
