World Learning - Short Term Consultant: Three Data Collector

Project Description World Learning is developing 5 sets of instruments for use in the World Bank’s Understanding the Classroom Practices and Performance of Teachers segment of the Research for Results (R4R) study in Lebanon. The project aims to enhance knowledge about effective classroom-level practices in Lebanon and their relations to the quality of education delivered. In this project, 4th and 7th grade classrooms in approximately 120 schools (including public, private, and subsidized private) throughout Lebanon will be examined in depth. The tools will be adapted to the Lebanese Curriculum, and piloted in 6-pilot schools.   Job Description Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and in close coordination with the Content Area Specialist, a team of 3 Data Collectors will be recruited to support in piloting the research tools in six non-sample Beirut-area schools that have different demographic profiles and represent the range of types of schools in the study. More specifically: -          Before the pilot phase, the data collector will be trained on the research tools developed by the International research specialist and adapted by the Content Area Specialist; -          In close collaboration with the Content Area Specialist, s/he will pilot the tools in six non-sample Beirut-area schools; data collection will include questionnaires, surveys, and interviews; -          Accurately record on the data collection form all required information that will be pertinent to the research. S/he will follow the guidelines of the data collection manual and guidelines developed; -          On each pilot day, the data collector will convene after visiting the school to a debriefing meeting; s/he will liaise with the Content Area Specialist and Project Manager regarding information gathered and updated; -          S/he will participate to the final review and debrief meeting which will be held following analysis of data; a -          During the whole process, s/he will adhere to confidentiality procedures and policies when collecting, storing and sharing data; and adhere to Dress Code as per the project manager guidelines; S/he will work closely with World Learning’s Lebanon office Project Manager and team as well as the team of researchers.   Qualifications: Minimum degree in Education (Math, Arabic  or French); At least 2 years’ experience in the education sector; Experience in Education and Teaching in one of the Content subject areas; Understanding of the classroom context; Knowledge of primary education in Lebanon with intimate knowledge of the Lebanese curriculum in the content area; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Arabic language; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French or English is preferable; Capacity to interact effectively and professionally with the project team and school staff and students; Able to anticipate unusual situations and make quick and responsible decisions. Exhibit the flexibility necessary to multi-task, and perform contracted services as needed. Ability to work in a fast-moving, complex, and multi-cultural environment; Ability to think and work logically, with careful attention to detail; Ability to work capably under stress and to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines; Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills.   Assignment Duration The duration of the consultancy is for 9-working days; -          2-days training on tools; -          6-day piloting tools and debriefing; -          1-day final review and debrief meeting.   How to Apply If interested in applying to this position, please send by email (info-lebanon@worldlearning.org) your CV and a cover letter (in English) with the job title in the subject line.
