ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Wash team, the Hygiene Promotion Assistant will be responsible for implementing the hygiene promotion activities for affected communities under the supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Officer. The Hygiene Promotion Assistant will work towards ensuring the programme is of a high technical quality, monitoring processes are in place, timely reporting occurs, and that the programme is continually assessed and solutions quickly put in place for a change of context. This Wash response will be integrated within core sectors of Save the Children such as Shelter, Food Security and Livelihood, Education and Child Protection.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Programme Implementation Support
Finalize operational work plans, understand clear targets and activity plans for every program.
Conduct need assessment on the household level to facilitate focus group discussions and field visits.
Is responsible for implementing hygiene sessions, and any other Wash activities, under the supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Officer and will provide technical support as needed.
Liaise on a daily basis with partners, communities, Save the Children area manager and supervisor to guarantee the smooth operation of the programme.
Work directly in the field with children, families and other stakeholders of the project location he/ she is allocated to, and provide information and advise beneficiaries on existing social services.
Assist in the identification and follow-up of hygiene promotion volunteers w support in their capacity building.
Participate in outreach activities, and assist in the organization and implementation of trainings and workshops.
Conduct water analysis at the household level to assess water treatment effectiveness
Perform data entry of hygiene sessions and redemptions from the community hygiene promoters, to be verified later on by the hygiene officer
Monitoring and Evaluation
Participate in monitoring and evaluating project activities in Remedial Classes for children.
Participate in the implementation of KAP (Knowledge, Attitude, Practice) and Post Distribution Monitoring
Produce timely reports for internal use on the ongoing activities of the project.
Ensure that data is collected on a weekly and monthly basis.
Regularly visit project sites to ensure that implementation took place
Reporting
Report weekly activities’ plans to Hygiene Promotion Officer
Report collected data and outcomes to Hygiene Promotion Officer
Report weekly written/oral incidents and accomplishments in the field to Hygiene Promotion Officer
Child Protection
Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality; and act in the best interests of the child.
Ensure the inclusion of gender, HIV, environment and other crosscutting issues are taken into consideration when implementing any Wash activity
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
At least two years’ experience in Public Health/ Wash/ Education, preferably in an NGO environment or community mobilization setting.
Bachelor degree in Education, Public Health, or another Social Science.
Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, good written and spoken English and an advantage of French language skills.
Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies.
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
