Deputy Safety Advisor

Scope of the Position Under the supervision of the Safety Advisor, the successful candidate will be focussed on monitoring safety and security related incidents for Southern Syria using widely available sources. The position will also be focused on data collation and management, data verification and encoding as well as assisting the Safety Advisor with drafting occasional reports. He/She will work under the direction of INSO’s Safety Advisor as well as with INSO’s other Deputy Safety Advisors. The successful candidate must have a professional working proficiency of Arabic and English (reading, writing and speaking). Key Objectives Assist in the collection of security information Receive, review and confirm safety and security incidents reports on a daily basis (from Arabic to English – written, read and verbal). Review the quality of the received information and compare with other reports. Work to verify non confirmed incidents through other sources (from English to Arabic – written and verbal)   Assist the Safety Advisor in the delivery of INSO Services   Register on a daily basis, verified incidents in a database (from Arabic to English - written). On a weekly bases, finalize the weekly regional incident list database. Ensure that the Safety Advisor is aware of security incidents (from the data) that could warrant a report. Assist the INSO Safety Advisor with occasional report writing as well as assist other Deputy Safety Advisor’s with presentations that will be given to NGO partners. Develop their knowledge and understanding of the security environment in southern Syria and its impact on the capacity of NGOs to deliver services. Qualification For the position of Deputy Safety Advisor, INSO is looking for a male or female following qualifications:  Good knowledge and understanding of the context and conflict dynamics in Southern Syria, having a pre-existing network will be a plus. Proven experience in conflict monitoring/analysis, working with databases and well as understanding how to use data for analysis. Working experience with NGOs is certainly preferred. An academic background, preferably political science or international relations. Display a capacity to look at the conflict in a neutral manner. Be mature, curious, detail oriented and conscientious. Have strong Arabic and English skills (reading, writing and speaking). The vacancy will be open till the 28th of November 2016.
