Child Safeguarding Coordinator - Beirut

ROLE PURPOSE: The mission of the Child Safeguarding Coordinator is to oversee the development, implementation and effectiveness of child safeguarding systems in the Lebanon programme. This work includes: (1) support establishment of effective child safeguarding system; (2) to reduce the risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation or harm to children in the program by implementing and monitoring Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct and Guidelines (3) assistance in the provision of technical support to partners.   The Child Safeguarding coordinator should also provide child Safeguarding technical advice and capacity building activities to staff and programs. The post holder will also be expected to provide significant mentoring and capacity-building to staff and partners. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: CD Reporting to: None KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Ensure that staff are competent and confident to carry out their safeguarding and child protection responsibilities effectively; Raise the profile of safeguarding and child protection and ensure that it is understood and embedded within the programme activities; Ensure awareness amongst staff and other representatives such as partners of our Child Safeguarding system, with induction and training for staff/partners relevant to their roles; Develop a plan to mainstream child safeguarding standards with Save the Children partner organisations, in coordination with the Partnerships Manager. Work closely with partner organisations to develop and implement child safeguarding procedures. Plan and deliver training programs for partner staff. Ensure a regular ongoing cycle of Child Safeguarding training with refresher/updating training as appropriate to role; Monitor that all staff and volunteers receive child safeguarding trainings and regular refresher sessions to enable each person to have a full understanding of the child safeguarding; Ensure that training material on Child Safeguarding is revised, contextualized and up to date; Support the overall strengthening of Country Strategic Plan mechanisms and processes in the country programme according to the SCI Child Safeguarding Policy; Monitor the overall implementation of the Country Strategic Plan in the country programme and ensure that the safeguarding mechanisms are in place and are subject to continuous monitoring/review Where appropriate, undertake child safeguarding investigations, sometimes in challenging environments and to rigorous timescales and standards, in coordination with the Country Director. Coordinating with the Regional Child Safeguarding department. Identify potential risks to children in all the project activities including workshops and events, plan mitigating measures and assign staff to be responsible for the implementation. Coach and support country Focal Points in order to improve Child Safeguarding practice. Identify and utilise opportunities to integrate safeguarding approaches into all aspects of our work. Role model high levels of professional safeguarding behaviour and maintain the standards required by the Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct. Explore ways in which to advocate on improving child safeguarding systems and procedures, liaising with the Child protection and other teams as appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES  Essential 3 to 5 years experience of child protection/child safeguarding practice within the country. Working with vulnerable communities and children or with similar experience within Save the Children Multi-disciplinary experience of working successfully with senior managers in other parts of organisation to deliver major operational change Extensive experience of planning and undertaking training programmes/workshops in child protection/safeguarding at a range of levels (e.g. field workers, mangers, senior managers and decision makers) Proven ability in terms of verbal communication and report writing in English language Excellent communication, training and presentational skills Good understanding of children’s issues within the country context Demonstrable commitment to Children’s Rights Sound knowledge on the local law pertaining to children. Self-sufficient, proactive self-motivating work styles Ability to prioritise and deal with competing demands Ability to provide long distance support and establish supportive relationships and networks Ability to work within challenging environments Awareness of own strengths and weaknesses and evidence of commitment to self-managed personal development  Desirable Experience working with Save the Children Experience of managing as well as undertaking complex child protection/safeguarding investigations and or disciplinary investigations
