Working overseas with (MSF) means that you will go to work in projects in any of the countries where MSF works. Each project you go to will require a certain period of commitment (6 to 12 months). It also means that you will need the flexibility to adjust to unfamiliar food, living quarters, pace of life, and languages. Projects may be located in the most remote places in the world, often in harsh environments with limited resources and amenities. Regardless of where you go, it might be a very different lifestyle. Working in an unfamiliar culture inevitably involves challenges in communication and perceptions. Being aware that people may not act or think like you, accepting this, and being able to adapt your own behaviors if required, is of utmost importance when working in the field. This creates a shared sense of purpose, sparking ingenuity and resourcefulness in getting things done, and a lot of spontaneous fun. http://msf-azg.be/en   Identification Name: Laboratory technician Report to: Activity Manager              Main purpose: Perform clinical laboratory activities according to MSF protocols, security and hygiene measures in order to obtain results to determine the patient’s treatment.   Accountabilities:                                           According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques and following MSFprotocols and procedures. This function includes, among others: Taking blood, vaginal and urethral samples. Centrifuge blood and urine samples. Perform laboratory exams (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology or parasitological, according to context of the mission). Ensure proper reporting and registration of the sample results in order to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality. Take care, manage and organize efficiently the laboratory material/equipment: Apply hygiene and safety protocols, doing daily cleaning /maintenance, sterilization, washing general glassware after procedures are done. Ensuring proper sample waste disposal according to MSF protocols and highest safety standards. Supply orders, do stock, storage conditions follow-up, keep inventory. Keep organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done. Report all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.         Requirements: Education: Essential Laboratory Technician diploma /degree Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)   Other requirements: Humanitarian motivation, Medical ethics, Cultural sensitivity, Altruism, Openness and flexibility, Ability to live and work as a team, Ability to manage stress, Availability: MSF requires a minimum of a 2 years commitment.   Experience: Minimum 2 year experience in surgery.   Languages: Arabic, English and/or French.
