Midwife

Main Purpose: Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications. Main Responsibilities: -Give the job related care while respecting medical prescriptions and protocols that apply in the service. -Ensure admission of patient and follow up of labour -Direct normal delivery, new-born care -Detect prolonged labour or delivery and signs of complication, prepare the patient for referral in case and accompany to a higher level of care. Administer certain medication with the agreement of the doctor. -Help the nurse with the new-born care/follow up, if needed -Supervise new-born care daily (the carrying out of vaccination…) and the mothers in the maternity ward (Assist and support the mothers to follow Kangaroo care and breast feeding). In case of complications, carry out resuscitation of the new-born. -Ensure the follow up of the new-borns and the mothers in the maternity ward -Prepare the discharge of mothers and their babies -In emergency cases, referral/ accompany/ follow-up of the patient to higher level care. -Register and complete a hospitalization file. -Update the files of patients and new-born Hygiene / Asepsis, Waste Disposal and stock keeping: Keep the ward clean and tidy -Sort waste and use appropriate containers and bins (sharps, combustible waste, domestic waste) -Follow cleaning and instrument sterilization procedures -Respect universal hygiene and asepsis rules during care -Watch over the hygiene of the patients -Watch over the ward’s medication and renewable stock   Working hours: In rotation to assure 24/24hours activity. Attention! To cover 24/24 shift, night and day shift needs to be filled in   Competences Analysis capacity (decision-making capacity and global vision of the project) Teamwork (ability to work with other people, whether they be medical or non-medical – bear in mind other priorities...) Ability to act as part of a multi-cultural and multidisciplinary team. Initiative Quality-driven (go beyond his/her “formal” responsibilities seeking quality outputs and improvement of working processes) Problem solving capacity Communication skills (capacity to listen and communicate in an effective, specific, positive way) Flexibility (capacity to adjust to changes, willing to go beyond her/his job profile if needed) Flexible for changes in the job profile and even of location due to instability of context. Ability to cope with stress. Ready to work in an unstable context (war context)
