Communications Officer

General Description International Relief and Development (IRD) is an international charitable, non-for-profit, non-governmental organization that collaborates with local and international partners to design and implement humanitarian relief and development aid programs. IRD’s mission is to reduce the suffering of the world’s most vulnerable groups and provide tools and resources needed to increase their self-sufficiency. IRD was founded in 1998 and has grown over the past decade into an organization that is operating in many countries across the world.   IRD has been present in Lebanon since 2006, and the first activities included assistance to poor rural households in southern Lebanon adversely affected by the July War. Currently, IRD implements projects in Lebanon within the context of Syrian crisis supporting civil society organizations, Syrian and Iraqi refugees, and Lebanese host communities.   Specific Responsibilities   Under the supervision of the Program Manager, and in coordination with the Program Coordinator, Grants Coordinator, and M&E Coordinator, the Communications Officer will strengthen the project’s overall outreach and communications efforts, with special focus on enhancing social media engagement among CSOs and strengthening their capacity to engage in advocacy. The Communications Officer will also be responsible for providing accurate and reliable reports that capture the program’s status, activities, accomplishments, and challenges. Specific activities include:   Support CSOs in digital engagement to enhance their capacity to develop and share digital content arising from ongoing program activities using a variety of platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp Support CSOs in proofreading content material related to their project activities and campaigns Facilitate platform-specific training for CSOs to generate effective and engaging content in order to initiate dialogue Support the development and sharing of useful communication material with CSOs to enhance their capacities Collect, organize, and compile digital content and field data into a series of internal reports and communications materials for dissemination to the program team, IRD headquarters and donor Maintain and manage the program’s social media presence Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator and Grants Coordinator to ensure validity of digital content and field data Monitor media reports for news that is of interest to the program Support CSOs to implement their social media strategy Support CSOs in sharing information of other program partners Other duties as assigned by Program Manager   Qualifications   Bachelor’s degree from accredited university (communications, journalism, international affairs, business administration or similar field of study) Minimum 3 years of experience in the use of social media and other internet-based outreach Experience working with international NGOs on civil society and development projects is highly desirable Ability to work simultaneously on multiple tasks in a fast-paced working environment Very organized with attention to detail and follow-up Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Mastery of spoken and written English and Arabic; ability to edit text into concise language appropriate for reports and presentations Knowledge of Microsoft Suite
