ROLE PURPOSE:
The Gender Equality Advisor provides technical guidance, oversights implementation of the gender equality project, and ensures that the SC Country Office in Lebanon projects and programmes are gender sensitive at a minimum and gender transformative wherever possible.

Key Areas of accountability
Strategic planning and leadership
Develop gender equality strategy and action plan, provide overall strategic leadership to Save the Children’s work in the gender mainstreaming in Lebanon,
Ensure that country office gender equality champions lead implementation of gender equality action plan and Senior Management Team lead accountability,
Lead the development and rollout of an gender strategy for Save the Children in Lebanon,
Ensure clear process in place for tracking and reporting on progress against the gender capacity building and mainstreaming action plan,
Provide technical input to the development of country annual plans, area plans, sector strategies and other planning documents.
Programme quality and standards
Provide gender technical expertise, quality assurance and support for Save the Children’s programmes, ensuring gender mainstreaming,
Develop a participatory gender equality survey to gather opinions from staff on gender mainstreaming capacity and strategies,
Conduct Gender analysis sessions by trained staff at multiple field sites with health, child protection, education, livelihoods project participants to identify local gender gaps and problems,
Coordinate the development of a technical capacity building plan for staff, working with field teams to prioritise training needs and resource these appropriately,
Conduct any necessary refresher gender equality/mainstreaming trainings to staff and trainings to partners,
Develop and maintain central database of tools and guidance to support gender mainstreaming at organizational level and programming, develop tools, guidance and documentation as required,
Develop a “virtual library” of recommended resources, best practice documentation and evidence in gender mainstreaming,
Ensure documentation of case studies and dissemination of these both internally and externally working with the Media and Advocacy team.
Programme development and resource mobilisation
Provide active leadership in Save the Children’s relationships with key donors for the gender equality/mainstreaming,
Identify and assess appropriateness of fundraising opportunities,
Lead technical development of high quality proposals for gender equality/mainstreaming,
Lead donor and partner mapping for the gender quality/mainstreaming.
Project implementation
Manage gender capacity building project supported by Save the Children members,
Support the development of monitoring, information management, and reporting systems that provide information for reporting and project improvement (in conjunction with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) and field staff),
Draft high quality reports on project progress.

Qualifications and Experience
Master degree in International Development / Relations, Women and Gender Studies or related field, or equivalent training/experience
4 – 5 years’ field work experience implementing, managing, and/or providing technical assistance to programs in developing countries, including with focus on gender mainstreaming/gender focused programs; focus on child and youth programming desirable
Knowledge of gender equality principles and practices
Experience with gender-sensitive child rights programming in areas including Health, Education, Child Protection and Livelihoods
Experience working in a range of Middle East contexts and countries
Experience in gender advocacy or policy work, or other regional or national mechanisms to advance gender equality is an asset
Knowledge of Results-Based Management (RBM) approach
Demonstrated thought leadership expertise such as contributions to academic journals, books, articles; speaking engagements, leading conference presentations and panels
Competencies, Skills and Behaviours
Ability to synthesize and develop high-quality knowledge products from diverse data sources including programmatic materials and tools; outstanding gender analysis skills
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence
Superior English communication and writing skills; proficiency in other languages considered an asset
Comfortable working independently with little supervision, as well as with receiving and accounting for direction and engaging as part of a dynamic team
