Education Specialist/textbooks Development

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities The Educational Specialist, under the direction of Education Programme/Textbook Development Unit as well as the ENPI Project Manager, will provide the following services in complete coordination with H/PDC Unit: Provide assistance in developing new English language textbooks for grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 in one part (6 units each) including: Student textbook about 160-180 pages- colored paper size: 19.5 x27 Workbook, one color-black, about 160-180 pages, paper size: 19.5 x27 Teacher guide- one color-black, about 120 pages, size A4   Detailed required activities: Reads the 1st draft provided by the consultant (hired on Special Services Contract to develop English books for Gr.04-09 and gives feedback concerning the suggested themes for Student book, suggested activities for the Work Book (WB), and instructions for Teacher Book (TB) in comparison with the objectives of teaching English as first foreign language in the host country.  Prepares the 1st draft of the Student Book (SB) for layout and design. Searches reliable resources of presented data, info and photos relevant to the suggested topics. Suggests suitable modification for the used photos and images. Makes sure the used photos and images are free to be used and/or seeks for permission for using them. Prepares clear instructions for the illustrator and follow up on daily basis to make sure the illustrations matches the required content/text and UNRWA policy (inclusiveness and gender equity). Checks for correct grammatical rules and examples used. Proofreading the 2nd and 3rd drafts as needed to produce accurate and high-quality work. Participates in designing/modifying activities for the WB as suggested by the consultant and TBDU team. Design workbook pages as requested including graphic organizers, tables, maps, Organize activities in the WB in the right sequence (to match instruction in the SB and TB). Assists in writing/modifying instructions in the TB. Assists in preparing assessments: units' assessment, midterm assessment and final assessment for the new textbooks. Provides assistance in preparing and implementing training material for teachers on using the new material. Follow up with the TBDU team on daily basis. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. The ES's job will involve managing more than one task at a time and allocating the relevant amount of time according to the value of the job. Typical activities include: Meets H/PDC, ENPI Project Manager and consultant to discuss the task objectives and requirements. Interpreting the needs and develops a concept to suit the purpose; Estimating the time required to complete the work; Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts.
