Name: FVAC 16.05 Job Title: National Project Consultant – Poultry expert Division/Department: FAO LEBANON Programme/Project Number: OSRO/LEB/502/EC: Enhancing Food Security and Livelihoods of Small Farmers through Semi-intensive Egg Production Location: Beirut – Lebanon with frequent travels to field project sites Expected Start Date of Assignment:   Duration:  100 days On WAE Basis Reports to: Name:   Maurice Saade   Title:   FAO Representative     General Description of task(s) and objectives to be achieved Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the technical supervision of the RNE-Livestock Officer, and in close collaboration with other international and national consultants, and in cooperation with government counterparts, the incumbent will:   Participate in the design, implementation and monitoring of all activities related to poultry production Monitor the health status of the laying hens and assess the chickens coop management practices and recommend suitable practices. Assist in project inception workshop and prepare inception reports immediately afterwards Draft technical specifications for inputs to be procured under the project and draft the distribution plan, in coordination with the FAO representation office in Lebanon; Train facilitators and other beneficiaries on technical issues related to poultry management including diseases and nutrition and on egg production. Draft quarterly progress reports for the donor. Contribute to the preparation of the Annual/Terminal Report based on the quarterly reports. Propose activities to maintain a proper health status of distributed laying hens such as vaccination programmes. Assist in the organization and implementation of Training of Facilitators workshop and other facilitators meetings. Organize and supervise collection of samples from laying hens for laboratory analysis Draft a technical manual for poultry FFS including participatory technology development activities Contribute to farmer/livestock-field-school (FFS) to enable targeted livestock keepers to adapt or adopt existing or new technologies and practices on improving poultry flock health. Monitor health and production of Laying Hens.   Candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:   University degree in veterinary sciences or livestock production 3 years’ experience in poultry production and/or health management Extent and relevance of experience in organizing meetings, and training workshops. Demonstrated experience in implementation of donor-funded field projects and reporting requirements of donors. Proven skills in rapid appraisal, data analysis and report writing in English; Very good Working knowledge in English and Arabic (French is an asset); Excellent Computer skills in MS Word and Excel. Competencies Knowledge of UN, FAO systems/ International Organizations; Willing to carry out extensive field visits to remote project locations. Ability to meet tight deadlines; Ability to work in a team; Results Focus Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement key performance indicators Submission of monthly progress reports Submission of field visit reports Contribution to donor reports Required Completion Date: Duration and reporting periods (quarterly and annual progress reports)
