Première Urgence – Aide Médicale Internationale is a not-for-profit, non-political and non-religious NGO. Its objective is to bring about a global response to the basic needs of populations suffering from acute humanitarian crisis and to allow them to recover their autonomy and dignity. PU-AMI’s involvement in the Syrian Crisis is strong, with a wide range of programs implemented in most of the countries affected by the conflict.
PU-AMI’s main objective in Lebanon for the years 2015/2016 is to provide a protection-based holistic response, covering the basic needs of refugees and host communities in Beirut, Saida, Mount Lebanon and Akkar districts.
A multi-sectorial portfolio of activities (Psychosocial, Education, Health, WASH, Food Security, Infrastructure, Shelter Rehabilitation and IS/CS Management - Protection) is addressing refugees and host population’s vulnerabilities, by enabling individuals and communities to achieve respect for rights in safety and dignity.
PU-AMI is also seeking more sustainable and cost-efficient modalities of implementation, mainly by building partnerships with local organizations and existing public entities, which will contribute to bridge the humanitarian assistance delivered to refugees with specific community support projects, in order to strengthen the social cohesion between communities.
Consequently, PU-AMI’s 2015-2016 Country Strategy is based on 2 programs:
A Humanitarian Assistance Program: providing a protection-based humanitarian material assistance and services to the most vulnerable refugees and people affected by the Syrian Crisis.
A Resilience Program: developing and strengthening community-level infrastructures as well as supporting household-level economic empowerment and well-being, with regards to specific poor and vulnerable groups, including women and people with disabilities.

OVERALL MISSION
General objective
PU-AMI will start a mobile outreach project in Akkar governorate, targeting the pregnant and postnatal women in the Informal settlements of Syrian refugees also vulnerable host families.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and as part of a mobile unit team, the midwife will be in charge of identifying, advising and referring pregnant women.
Responsibilities and tasks
1. Pregnancy
Monitor and examine women during pregnancy
Ensure ante-natal care for pregnant women
Refer high risks pregnancies to the nearest PHC centers for specialist cares, laboratory investigations and ultrasounds
Provide information of supported hospitals for delivery in order for the pregnant mother to make delivery plan
Closely follow up cases referred to PHC or secondary health care centers
2. Birth Control
Provide family planning promotion and information of oral/injectable contraceptives, condoms
Ensure referral to PHC for further treatment if necessary
3. Infant care
Follow growth monitoring among children under 5 years
Ensure awareness and knowledge of referral options
Instruct on how to deliver daily care to the baby, including breastfeeding and bathing
4. Reporting
Participate actively in the monitoring and the reporting of medical activities: correctly fill in patient files, forms, statistics, reports, etc.
Ensure a relevant transfer of information to line manager

QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory requirements
Language Skills: Fluent in Arabic (reading, writing, speaking), English language desirable
Education Degree: Midwifery Diploma, certified by the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon
Work experience: Proven experience working as midwife
Computer Skills: knowledge of the MS office software including Word, Excel, Outlook
Other requirements
-Good knowledge of Akkar geography, willing to travel a lot locally
-Excellent communication (especially in public) and diplomacy skills to manage relationship in potentially tense situations
-Literacy in reporting, experience in conducting surveys
