Objectives:
•To take delegated responsibility from country managers for the follow up on specific operational advocacy files for Lebanon and Syria
•As part of the HIT network, be responsible for specific files as delegated by the HIT coordinator
•As a part of the MENA hub team, contribute ideas, analysis and content for a variety of MENA hub projects
•Help build MSF’s profile in Lebanon through the organising of external debates and collaborations with civil society organisations or academic institutions.
Tasks:
•Identify opportunities for advocacy and actively propose operational advocacy strategies to address specific topics in Lebanon and Syria
•Work on identifying links between the Lebanon / Syria teams and projects and other MSF OCB projects in particular relating to migration and refugee flows
•Conduct research into specific topics when requested by operations
•Contribute to the monitoring of context developments in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and the broader region and provide real time updates to the medical teams in order to improve our humanitarian response
•Develop a network of people that can assist MSF in better understanding the context in the region
•Alongside other people in the medical projects and MENA hub, support teams in networking by identifying interesting people to meet, arranging meetings, maintaining contacts
•As part of the HIT network follow specific dossiers
•As a part of the HIT network, research and write briefing papers – both internal and external - to stimulate debate or to be used for strategic public positioning, communication and/or advocacy purposes
•Organise regular round-table debates / discussions / panels in collaboration with different academic institution and civil society organisations on topics relevant to the region and beyond
•Contribute to the reflection of the HIT and the MENA hub on specific dossiers by feeding in analysis rooted in the reality of the MENA region
•Provide regular support to project teams (punctual visits or strategic gap filling)
•Identify academic outlets in the region for HIT reflection pieces
•Actively contribute to the HIT blog
•This position will form part of the HIT network and will therefore be required to participate in regular team meetings and strategic development of the unit
Requirements:
•2 to 5 years senior experience with MSF or other leading humanitarian organisation in an advocacy or Humanitarian Affairs type role;
•Fluency in English and Arabic (both spoken and written);
•Excellent writing and communication skills;
•Ability to work independently and report relevant information clearly and concisely;
•Diplomatic and patient nature;
•Excellent personal organisational ability;
•Flexibility to travel.
