PROJECT OVERVIEW
Conflict in Syria has erupted into a full-scale civil war endangering lives in almost every community in the country. Desperate families, caught in the crossfire, are leaving everything behind and fleeing into neighbouring countries. Lebanon, one of these countries, has received a large influx of refugees from Syria.
To assist the arriving Syrian refugees, Medair’s team in Lebanon intends to implement an emergency shelter project, mapping activities, WASH, health, emergency flood response and fire safety training in the Bekaa Valley.
Through the shelter activities, refugee families will be provided with essential items and assisted with improving settlement sites and poor housing conditions. In addition, Medair complements these shelter activities with critical NFI distributions and a WASH program, distributing such things as water filters and hygiene kits.
The mapping project is part of the overall shelter and NFI project and provides crucial data where Syrians are setting up temporary living structures. These maps are shared to the humanitarian community to increase coordination and build the knowledge of the growing situation.
Apart from shelter associated work, Medair is supporting clinics at Social Development Centres throughout the Bekaa through training, facilitates improvements, medicines and medical supplies. These clinics serve Syrians and Lebanese populations alike.
