Role
The role of the Community Engagement Officer is to work within a project team with stakeholders in Ras Beirut community.
The Community Engagement Officer will work proactively and imaginatively to develop good working relations and mechanisms between the Ras Beirut community stakeholders. They will use local knowledge and networks to represent different voices from the community. They support the design and implementation of community engagement activities, and contribute to the communications strategy. The Community Engagement Officer will have very strong communication and liaison skills.
Objectives
Develop effective working relationships between the different community stakeholders and other organisations.
Communicate community issues and concerns to the project team, using local knowledge to clarify issues.
Support development of joint-problem solving between the different community stakeholders in collaboration with the project team.
Facilitate community engagement meetings.
Support on running community engagement events and activities.
Support on multi-media monitoring and evaluation of all engagement activity.
Develop a database of community contacts.
Support development of project team communication strategy in new and traditional media, identifying and sourcing promotional material.
Deliverables (subject to review)
Design and implementation of inclusive participatory activities and events, which allow marginalised voices and opinions to be heard.
Creation of action plans to develop community engagement
Make participants feel valued, challenged, unthreatened and empowered.
Assistance in facilitating media coverage.
Experience and skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Working proficiency in Arabic and English.
Experience of working in community engagement and/or communications.
Knowledge of methods and channels for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders from variety of backgrounds.
Knowledge of the Ras Beirut area and its community is a strong advantage.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to engage and build relationships across social classes.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Facilitative skills to challenge and facilitate different perspectives, and to help others see alternative viewpoints.
Excellent inter personal skills, and ability to influence at all levels and to work effectively as part of a team.
