ToR – Graphic designer for Solid Waste Management Campaign Background: Concern Worldwide has been conducting Solid Waste Management (SWM) activities in Akkar.District as part of the agreed WASH PCA with UNICEF. This has included providing bins to several villages with UNICEF directly supporting through the provision of bin Lorries to collect the waste. To ensure that the communities and municipalities properly dispose, collect and manage solid waste, the Hygiene Promotion (HP) team is planning to conduct Solid Waste Management in many Informal tented settlements (ITSs) Bebnine, Mhamara and Machta Hammoud villages were selected as they have already received bins from Concern and have been classified as ‘high priority’ areas by UNICEF. The SWM forms part of the environmental awareness sessions conducted by Concern, with the aim of reaching at least 5000 individuals (Syrian refugee’s population). In order to reach this number of beneficiaries it has been decided to design and use IEC materials that will convey key messages related to safe waste disposal. These materials will include posters, leaflets and stickers addressing specific issues in the three villages through photos and drawings that show the problems. The purpose of this ToR is to hire a graphic designer who will design the IEC materials to convey the agreed SWM messages related to the informal settlement context. Specific tasks: Visit different Informal settlements (ISs) to understand the general context and the current situation of SWM in the areas Meet with the HP team to agree on the final messages to be illustrated in the IEC materials and the format to be used for each Design materials relevant for both adults and children / Syrian refugees Ensure accessibility of materials for illiterate people Make the necessary changes after UNICEF feedback   Time: The SWM will start in October 2015. The IEC materials should be finalized in the end of September. Reporting lines: The HP team members and the graphic designer will meet prior to design the IEC materials and to agree on the messages and the pictures used. The graphic designer will report the progress of the work to the HP team leader and WASH manager who will confirm with UNICEF and sign-off the final designs. Deliverables: The messages to be delivered to the target population are: The importance of safe solid waste disposal (closing bags, placing them into bins) Negative impact of throwing waste Negative effects of burning, discriminate dumping and disposing of waste in unsafe landfills Importance of recycling materials   These messages will be delivered as posters, leaflets and stickers which will be given to refugees in the mentioned villages.
