MAIN PURPOSE
Group counseling (therapeutic, awareness, or support) and other mental health activities based on need and MSF MH strategy. Implementing MHPSS activities inside of community in order to improve knowledge and skills on relevant MH topics. Provide referrals to the psychologist. Identify the gap between the need for and availability of Mental Health services.
JOB ACTIVITIES
Identify psycho-social needs of community through a MHPSS assessment. Respond to the community mental health needs, according to the scope of the project, by giving direct psycho-social support and/or refer to other social actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living
Conduct group counseling with various groups as needed within the strategy context.
Train teachers in the identified schools in Psychological First Aid and stress management.
Train teachers in identifying and referring cases.
Offer capacity building to identified NGO’s and PFA to MSF staff.
Keep records and statistic updated, reporting any mental health and social activity, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects.
Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of MHPSS. Take care of few psycho-social services facilities, materials and equipment in order to ensure continuity.
According to Mental Health priorities, deliver information to the community on specific health topics and services, particularly the Iraqi population.
Implement activities of psycho-education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the MH Supervisor.
Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to psycho-social and social problems.
Be a community focal point for referrals to the psychologist
Work in close collaboration with psychologist in order to ensure that appropriate terminology and behavior are being used during visit in the field
Inform the MH supervisor about any issues or problems that may arise in the field about mental health stigmatization or misunderstand in order to provide the best possible solution for such conception
EXPERIENCE
Two years minimum previous experience in a similar social job; experience with NGO’s desirable.
REQUIREMENTS
Willingness and competencies to support people with different national, social, cultural and/or religious background
Willingness and competence to reach and visit vulnerable places in order to make a better field research
Language Level Description
Arabic and English speaker
Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
