JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Psychologist – UNICEF-funded project “Protection of vulnerable children and women from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect in South Lebanon and Rashaya”
Location: South Lebanon – (See specific timetable Annexed)
General duties and responsibilities:
Within the safe and confidential spaces established in already operating SDCs, Community Centers, Child Friendly Spaces, newly identified premises in each covered district or when necessary in beneficiaries households, the Psychologist will provide Psychological support to most critical identified cases (by Child Protection (CP), Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) case workers and Persons with Specific Needs (PwSN)) promoting an integrative and holistic survivor centered approach. To ensure access to the psychological counselling service for PoCs (Person of Concern) with severe disability – or other cases where severe mobility barriers exist – the psychologist is required to provide counselling services through households regular visits. The Psychologist will ensure quality case management by firstly seeking consent of survivors, providing counseling, drafting an action plan and, providing suitable follow up and analysis on a regular basis.
The roving Psychologist will also ensure continuous feedback to SGBV and CP case workers and will provide the psychological counseling services according to the timetable here attached (ANNEX 1).
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct responsibility of the Project Manager, and in close collaboration of INTERSOS staff (the Case workers and Field Activities Coordinator) the psychologist will:
1. Identified vulnerable cases are provided with direct psychosocial support and internal and external referral as needed, accordingly to a beneficiary/survivor centered approach and based on guiding principles
Assist INTERSOS staff in the detection of most vulnerable cases.
Provide a clinical assessment on identified cases of persons at risk and survivors of CP / SGBV.
The Psychologist will open individual files for survivors, monitor the service provision and ensure that cases under assistance receive all the care and support needed.
Provide identified SGBV, CP and PwSN cases with emotional support.
The Psychologist will provide beneficiary/survivor access to immediate, safe and multi-sectoral services through recommendation for referral to the INTERSOS case workers.
2. Follow psycho-social activities with children, youth and caregivers
Participate to targeted recreational and PSS activities in the Child Friendly Spaces/Child Smart Bus for children and youth and Informal skill trainings for youth in order to guide the staff i) in their daily work and ii) training them on the job on how to recognize cases in need of psychological support;
Participate to PSS activities with parents and caregivers, parents groups/focus group discussions and awareness sessions supporting the staff in conducting activities with individuals, families and hosting communities;
Conduct, upon request, at least two awareness sessions per month on psychological issues;
Develop a monitoring tool to measure “% reduction in the proportion of children who experience violence in the home/school/community” and train the staff on how to use it on the field.
3. Carrying out briefings on Child and Adult Psychology and protection related issues to local networks, key community members as well as authorities and offer trainings to INTERSOS staff on quality case management and protection mainstreaming in field interventions
When necessary the Psychologist will regularly organize and facilitate briefings on Protection and SGBV related issues to INTERSOS staff, local networks, key community members (such as refugee community focal points), as well as authorities in order to build capacity and raise awareness on diverse protection concerns and encourage timely referral.
Support the specialized INTERSOS staff in case management and in general all INTERSOS staff (of all projects) by offering trainings to ensure that protection issues are mainstreamed in field interventions and detection of cases can be efficiently referred in timely manner.
4. Reporting
Produce and maintain accurate records and follow up action plans of the beneficiaries: cases files and technical reports must be archived in locked and secure location; access to them should be restricted only to relevant, authorized project staff.
Set up a monitoring system to evaluate the effectiveness and the impact of the individual counseling and psychological support interventions;
The Psychologist along with Information Management Officer will integrate the inter-agency efforts aiming to ensure safe and ethical collection, storage, analysis and sharing of reported data.
Ensure a weekly and monthly quantitative and qualitative reporting through specific reporting tools (Assessment Form, Psychological follow up form, Case notes, etc).
5. Participate in the analysis and reporting of global issues in the refugee population, with a focus on psychosocial and psychological issues
Identify specific needs on psychosocial and psychological issues of the project’s beneficiaries, as well as to contribute to the assessment of these needs
Participate to formal and informal meetings with the team, and contribute to a qualitative analysis of the different kinds of issues, at individual, familial and community level
Participate to the reporting of activities and discussions on the evolution of the beneficiaries’ psychosocial situation, in particular to assist with the ongoing support provided to cases by the Case workers.
6. Meetings
Be available to participate in meetings in Tyre’s INTERSOS Office or other identified premise.
Participate to case management meetings in Sour District
Meets with other project staff when required.
Participate to trainings and workshops when approved by the Project Manager
Any change to the proposed activities should be discussed with the INTERSOS Project Manager in Tyre.
