JOB DESCRIPTION Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way societies deal with conflicts. We have acquired over 30 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in 53 local offices worldwide. SFCG first worked in Lebanon in 1996, and we opened up our office here in 2008. The issues we address are multiple, such as conflicts arising within Lebanon's diverse society, tensions resulting from the increasing influx of Syrian refugees, security sector reform, as well as women’s socio-economic empowerment. In each project we seek to engage all stakeholders and strengthen local capacities in order to create sustainable change and increase social cohesion. Summary of Project Since April 2014, Search for Common Ground Lebanon  with  the  support  of  the  European  Union in Lebanon and in partnership with two local partners, is implementing  ‘Better Together: A  Youth  Led  Approach to Peaceful Coexistence’. This two‐year project promotes dialogue and trust-building between 320 Syrian and Palestinian refugees and Lebanese youth from 8 different communities through theatre, music, drawing and film making. SFCG is now looking for a new mixed team of Syrian and Lebanese artists to embark on am eleven-month journey with a new group of 160 youth to complete the second year of the initiative. Summary of Position The consultant will be responsible for participating in two summer camps and delivering art sessions (music, video or drawing) to a diverse group of youth over seven months with the aim to develop, with the youth, one art product per region that will be disseminated among their peers and their communities to promote positive examples of and support social stability. S/he will create a safe space for the youth to break down stereotypes and prejudices which will enable them to become positive role models within their communities. The consultant will conduct the art sessions and will ensure that the deliverables are reached on-time, within budget, and to maximum effect. S/he will expect to collaborate closely with the participants as well as SFCG staff and partners in the Bekaa and South to ensure the deliverables are of high quality, and delivered in a timely manner. Responsibilities Develop and maintain proactive and positive relationships with the youth; Develop and maintain proactive, positive and professional relationships with the partner organization and SFCG; Implement project activities in a timely manner ensuring good quality action and credible outcomes; Maintain regular written and oral reporting with the partners and SFCG Programme Coordinator; Ensure necessary prior arrangements for training activities and communicated to SFCG Programme Coordinator and the partners; Deliver monthly workshops in the Bekaa and the South of Lebanon; Ensure peacebuilding outcomes of the workshop as well as the full development of the final product; As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties. Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in a related, preferably in video making, illustration, music, arts and science or humanities. Degree in psychology an asset; Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in one of the abovementioned arts using art for peacebuilding; Familiarity with an arts approach to peacebuilding and the Lebanese context, is an asset; Track record of delivering workshops (to youth); Track record of delivering art products; Skills Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various partners and youth from different backgrounds; Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations; Excellent interpersonal skills; Spoken and written fluency in Arabic, English is an asset; Strong oral and written communications skills; Cultural sensitivity and adaptability; Experience required:  2-3 years Education degree: Bachelor Degree Field of education: - Bachelor’s Degree in a related area (preferably, arts and humanities, arts and science, video production, illustration, music or related area. - Minimum of 2 (2) years of related experience in of the abovementioned arts, including experience with youth, conducting workshops. - Familiarity with the practice of an arts approach to peacebuilding and the Lebanese context.
