Shelter Assistant

Who are we?The Danish Refugee Council has worked in Lebanon since September 2004, and the programs have followed the country’s needs and progress. The main focus of today’s efforts in Lebanon is to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who have fled across the border to find protection from the conflict in their homeland. DRC is simultaneously maintaining the efforts toward the vulnerable groups of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. More than 200.000 Syrian refugees have received assistance from the Danish Refugee Council since the beginning of the crisis.For further information about DRC, please refer to our website: www.drc.dk About the jobImplementation of shelter related assessments and site identification, working within a team of highly motivated people and an organization dedicated to provide assistance to Syrian refugees. The Tripoli province office is based in Qualamoun. DRC is working alongside various partners including the UNHCR. Duties• Carry out daily field visits related to shelter issues• Identifying abandoned structures to be used as collective shelters• Filling out a questionnaire, conduct interviews• Assist in the survey and design of existing sites and buildings, including sketching and technical descriptions• Assist in describing and estimating of constructions and procurement cost and drafting the bill of quantity• Ensure proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies)• Keep good relations with local implementing actors and other international and local stakeholders• Assist in issues related to procurement, purchasing practices and documentation, financial procedures,• Maintain excel database to ensure that statistics and other reports are produced on a timely basis; About youTo be successful in this role you must have:• Diploma in Civil/Mechanical engineering or any other related field Knowledge and 1-2 years experience in the supervision of construction works on field• Demonstrated use in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.• At least one year of relevant professional experience in similar area such as shelter, and construction (Experience in NGOs preferable)• Good communication and organizational skills        • Commitment to the values, vision and mission of DRC      • Self-motivated and good team spirit• Ability to speak, read and write Arabic (Native Arabic speaker) and English  We offerAn interesting job in one of the world’s best NGOs. DRC will offer the successful applicant a 6 months contract with 3 months probation period, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from March 2015 and be willing and able to work in Tripoli-Lebanon.Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National staff. This position will be placed at level B1, equivalent to USD 1,204 per month (basic salary).
