About Lebanon Support Lebanon Support is an independent non-governmental, non-religious, non-political, and non-profit making information and research center. Established in 2006, Lebanon Support was registered as a National Non-Governmental Organization in November 2008 (registered under the number 168/2009 AD). Lebanon Support aims at enhancing civil society capacity, efficiency and effectiveness through the creation of public spaces for reflection, collaboration and debate on and for civil society in Lebanon. Lebanon Support adopts a multidisciplinary approach and evidence and fact-based methodologies in civil society work in Lebanon so as to support and develop a civic voice and a better impact towards better accountability and societal change in Lebanon. Within this framework Lebanon Support focuses on information and knowledge sharing and management, production and delivery; as it is within Lebanon Support’s beliefs, that information and knowledge are at the heart of developing adequate strategies and interventions to reduce existing vulnerabilities and marginalization in the country. Background Lebanon Support is undertaking, in partnership with the Peace Building in Lebanon Project at the UNDP, a “Conflict Analysis and Mapping Project”. Based on a wide definition of conflicts, the project aims at providing data and information on areas prone to conflict. It tracks incidents, mobilizations and conflicts throughout Lebanon on an interactive and continuously updated map. It also produces a wide range of knowledge products that focus on conflict dynamics and trends through periodic conflict report, actors profiles, conflicts timelines among others. Objective The researcher will research and produce periodical reports on conflicts in Lebanon (including security, political and social conditions).  Specific Tasks Undertakes literature reviews and desktop research; Conducts extensive field research in order to analyse prevailing conflict, security, political and social conditions in Lebanon using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques; Based on fieldwork and literature, develop a wide range of analytical tools and original publications for Lebanon Support including but not restricted to: analytical reports and policy recommendations on key issues; Based on the analyses generated, prepares briefing papers and other derivative products setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations in concise and clear manner; Based on fieldwork and literature, develop tools to create relevant mapping exercises; Support in the organization of a series of round table and research dissemination events; Review and research other topics as requested and needed by Lebanon Support. Requirements Master’s degree in social sciences (political science, sociology, anthropology) or equivalent through experience is a minimum requirement.  PhD candidates or fresh PhD graduates with relevant publications have significant advantages; More than five years professional experience in the fields of conflict analysis, government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism in Lebanon; Excellent research and analytical skills and a very good academic record; Outstanding writing, editing and analytical skills and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations; Fluency in English, and Arabic are minimum requirements. Knowledge of French is highly desirable; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including good public presentation skills, and a very strong capacity for effective teamwork; Ability to work in a fast-paced and often demanding environment.
