Case Worker

Department(s): Social Services Reports to: The Executive Director The case worker is responsible for handling any and all social cases – in the form of service users - that come to the center for assistance, support, advice, and protection. These may include protection from legal and social discrimination, career support, assistance in finding accommodation; referral to medical and psychological assistance, providing information, and counselling. Ideal candidates should have a community outreach-based background (social work, public health, etc…) as well as experience with social work and handling social cases. Familiarity with cases involving LGBT service users, survivors of sexual and gender based violence, and other vulnerable minorities is strongly preferred. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Receives individual and collective requests and maintains the utmost secrecy and professionalism when handling cases; Undertakes writing and assessing all service users with the highest standards and in a timely fashion; Builds trusting relationships with service users; Maintains a private and secure archive of all cases and service users and prepares reports for legal or social action; Conducts interviews as well as needs and risk assessments with service users and their relevant stakeholders at assess and review their situation; Ensures all relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines are being followed when handling cases; Liaises with and makes referrals to other appropriate agencies; Participates in training, supervision, and team meetings; Develops Helem’s understanding of the broad legal concepts, law and practices regarding the Lebanese legal system Ensures all case deliverables meet deadlines and are of the highest quality; Coordinates with the Executive Director on all necessary programming requirements and policies; Gives evidence in court when and if needed; Upholds the integrity of Helem’s vision, mission, goals, values, and objectives; Minimum Qualifications 2-3 years work experience with health and social work in Lebanon; Experience with and prior knowledge of issues relating to sexual orientation and gender identity is highly preferred; High levels of maturity, patience, resilience and the ability to handle crisis situation; Strong observation, analytical, and listening skills; Ability to absorb legal and procedural information quickly and negotiate on behalf of service users; Fluency in Arabic is essential. English and/or French is preferable; Superior verbal and written communications skills Computer literacy and the ability to work with MS programs; Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, or a related field Additional Remarks: Priority will be given to local and/or persons from regional countries that are currently on a long-term residence in Lebanon.
