Organization Overview Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way societies deal with conflicts. We have acquired over 30 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in 53 local offices worldwide. SFCG first worked in Lebanon in 1996, and we opened up our office in Beirut in 2008. Since then, our activities and capacities have grown significantly. We rely on local staff as well as local partner organisations in order to ensure our work is culturally sensitive, sustainable and well-grounded in the Lebanese context. Our Vision While conflict is inevitable, violence is not! Therefore we work to achieve social change through transforming the way people deal with conflicts – away from violent and adversarial approaches, towards collaborative problem solving. For more information, visit www.sfcg.org and https://www.facebook.com/sfcg.lebanon. Intervention Summary Since October 2013, SFCG Lebanon has been implementing a pilot project aiming at harnessing the potential of Lebanon’s security sector to play an effective, legitimate, and democratically accountable role in providing external and internal security for their citizens. Working in conflict and post-conflict contexts over the last 30 years, SFCG understands the need to work with security forces to enable them to feel confident in responding to conflict without resorting to violence. This involves a combination of skills building and relationship-strengthening so that collaborative, non-violent action between security forces and civilians becomes a reality. The main goal of this pilot project is to support regular and sustainable collaboration between the ISF officers and the Ras Beirut citizens to promote security in their community.
