ROLE PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Coordinator (and overall guidance of the Child Protection Program Manager) the Child Protection Assistant (Case worker) will be responsible for implementing activities related to case management and alterative care, targeting vulnerable children and families including refugees, returnees and host- families.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The key roles and responsibilities for the Child Protection Assistant (Case Worker) are:
Be responsible for the identification, assessment, documentation and referral (to relevant services) and follow-up of at-risk children and families.
Conducting regular visits to schools and CFS to work with teachers and animators on the identification and referral of at risk-children.
Provide information and arrange social counseling for individual cases, namely children and adolescents at risk and parents in need of support.
Provide information and advise the beneficiaries on existing social services and how to access them.
Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of child protection risks to refugee children, children of host-families and returnees and other vulnerable/at-risk children.
Submit reports weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities and cases.
Participate in weekly case management and coordination meetings.
Maintain files, registers, computer databases and records in paper or electronic format.
Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that a proper management of the case is preserved.
Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, community spaces etc with a particular focus on outreach work and support in identification, referral and case management of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy).
Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.
Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Degree in Social Work (desirable), or degree social sciences or development.
Experience in working with at-risk children and families, ideally experience in case management.
Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities.
Experience in project and team management (desirable).
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, and either English or French (desirable).
Ability to write weekly and monthly reports, develop schedules and collect data.
Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies.
