Minimum required knowledge & experience:
Certified, registered General Surgeon, specialisation in visceral and / or orthopaedic surgery an added value
5 years working experience in surgery
Good knowledge of spoken and written English and / or French
Good computer skills
Standard function description:
She / he works with the ICRC Team Surgeon (TS) and the surgical team in clinical practice under the supervision of the Senior Surgeon (SenS)
Follows ICRC clinical protocols, guidelines and evidence based practise
Responsible for the clinical management of patients under her / his care (pre-operative assessment, surgical intervention and postoperative follow-up).
Works together with the ICRC TS, the Team Anaesthetist, the resident anaesthetic technicians and resident doctors under the supervision of the SenS.
Participates in the hospital emergency plan as per assignment
Leads the surgical ward rounds at Hospital in the absence of, or in collaboration with the ICRC TS
Provides direction and written documentation of all patients under her / his care on a regular base
Assists in the management of patients including the initial treatment and resuscitation of emergency patients in collaboration with the ICRC team surgeon
Participates in the triage and management of patients in the event of mass casualties as per assignment within the framework of the hospital emergency plan
Works as full time surgeon as per ICRC duty roster (day or night including on call shifts)
Replaces the ICRC team surgeon when needed
Respects the ICRC admission criteria
Follows the ICRC principles for the management of the weapon wounded under the supervision of the ICRC SenS. Follows a standardised approach to treatment by respecting agreed ICRC standard protocols, guidelines
Ensures precise and clear documentation, including wound scoring, the patient’s treatment plan, the filling of discharge forms and death certificates as indicated
Ensures appropriate use of drugs and antibiotics as per ICRC protocols and if indicated national guidelines.
Applies Universal Precaution Techniques
Assists in teaching and training programmes (lectures / practical exercises) for ICRC hospital staff if required
