Communications Manager

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications Manager will advance Mercy Corps’ ongoing programming in Beirut, Beqaa, and South Lebanon by producing key documents and materials.  S/he will be hired for an initial six months to provide needed support to plan and implement key communications components of ongoing programming focused on protection monitoring, child protection, and WASH. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Overall Collaborate with Mercy Corps staff, including global Communications Director, to identify key components of communications strategy including intended audience, existing assets and resources, etc. to inform a broad communications plan for Mercy Corps Lebanon Develop strategies to increase Mercy Corps’ communication within local communities in Lebanon to promote program activities and increase awareness and acceptance Produce communication material and publications that market Mercy Corps' work (online, offline and audiovisual) in coordination with the Program Teams for key donors, peer agencies, and other key stakeholders; Generate and edit written content for online and offline venues, including Mercy Corps’ global website Oversee update of the Mercy Corps Lebanon Facebook page in coordination with the M&E team; Prepare and launch the presence of Mercy Corps activities on social media Assist in organizing events such as receptions, conferences, TV and radio talk shows and press releases Apply and maintain Mercy Corps brand identity and parameters in all written and audio visual materials  Protection Monitoring Review current protection monitoring programming in Beqaa and South Lebanon to understand nature of the activities and identify key gaps to inform planning of communications strategy Develop ideas for communication and outreach tools to increase Mercy Corps advocacy on the protection environment in Lebanon; vet ideas with key staff and then implement Bolster data with narratives and spotlight stories from refugee families, for use on Mercy Corps website, and other mechanisms to demonstrate key needs and responses Build a photo bank and develop photo stories to include with reports and on website Design and develop information leaflets for distribution to refugees and vulnerable host communities, in close collaboration with key staff, to promote awareness raising and advocacy on identified issues Other support as needed  Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Review current WASH programming in Beqaa and South Lebanon to understand nature of the activities Review existing WASH hygiene promotion materials and advise on how to improve further, including development of new materials to increase community awareness as well as visibility; Coordinate with M&E team to gather and use existing success stories that highlight Mercy Corps’ interventions for donors Other supports as needed  Other Ensure all activities are gender sensitive and follow Mercy Corps’ Gender Equity Policy; Apply Do No Harm standards to ensure activities do not have detrimental affects on vulnerable communities; Contribute to monthly reports and other ad hoc reports to meet donor and internal requirements; Participate in internal office coordination and planning meetings and workshops; Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit toMercy Corpsand to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission; Other assigned tasks, as necessary. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:  At least five years of experience working with social or political-related work with understanding of Lebanon’s current refugee and host community context.  Must be willing to travel throughout Beqaa Valley, South Lebanon and Beirut.  SUCCESS FACTORS: S/he will take a deep personal interest in humanitarian and development assistance.  S/he will be attentive to detail and able to carry out assigned tasks in a timely manner and according to a very high standard of quality.  S/he will be creative and flexible, but at the same time will not have any difficulty in adhering to systems and procedures.  S/he will strictly follow all protocols related to safety and security.
